00:14 πŸ”— godane i'm uploading more tech news today
00:47 πŸ”— dashcloud this is cool: http://mynsarecords.com/ Fill in the form and the site's creator will mail out a Freedom of Information Act on your number, or send out a motion to the FISA court to quash any records on your number
00:52 πŸ”— closure myguaranteednsarecords.com
00:55 πŸ”— dashcloud the hacker news story I found that site through covered that point
00:56 πŸ”— dashcloud in all likelihood, if you are a US citizen (or merely living in the US), there's a record of some kind on you- maybe just a number
00:59 πŸ”— omf_ my number is 1337
01:02 πŸ”— omf_ (ʘ_ʘ)
01:02 πŸ”— Aranje :D
01:03 πŸ”— omf_ Shit my NSA file is probably fucking pages of ASCII art
01:03 πŸ”— omf_ and depictions of fucking in ASCII as well
01:19 πŸ”— godane so i'm going to do a panic dump of hacker news
01:25 πŸ”— ivan` if you get blocked you can try hitting http://ihackernews.com/
01:27 πŸ”— godane thank you
01:27 πŸ”— godane i was getting blocked
02:04 πŸ”— dashcloud godane: why hackernews?
02:16 πŸ”— godane there are lots of comments on it
02:16 πŸ”— godane like close to 6 million
02:24 πŸ”— ivan` please send me the usernames you discover for the greader grab
02:25 πŸ”— ivan` I only have 33K or so
02:25 πŸ”— godane i may do this mirror later
04:19 πŸ”— DFJustin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfLxZPf5l2M
09:16 πŸ”— omf_ ( ̄ー ̄)
09:17 πŸ”— * BlueMax throws omf_ out the window
09:17 πŸ”— * omf_ throws water balloons at BlueMax
09:18 πŸ”— * BlueMax throws an anvil at omf_
09:18 πŸ”— omf_ what up besides the sky
09:19 πŸ”— BlueMax boredom mostly.
09:35 πŸ”— omf_ Γ°ΒŸΒ˜Β‚
09:36 πŸ”— * BlueMax chops omf_'s head off
09:36 πŸ”— omf_ ҜŒ.|Γ’Β€Β’ΓΒ‘Γ‹Β˜Γ’Β€ΒΏΓ’Β€Β’ΓΒ‘Γ‹Β˜|.ҜŒ
09:37 πŸ”— * BlueMax jumps out a window
09:57 πŸ”— omf_ I am super bored too
10:02 πŸ”— BlueMax I'd play a game or something but I am incapable of focusing on anything :|
10:05 πŸ”— BlueMax http://www.gcw-zero.com This thing looks interesting
11:47 πŸ”— omf_ I wonder how many people download sites to make big data collections and never do anything with it? I was reading some blog posts talking about what they are going to do, fast forward a few years and nothing has happened. I email them asking whats up and they said they never started the project.
11:48 πŸ”— omf_ Now this happens far too often but there are two simple solutions to this problem that both fall on the author. First they could simply not blog about things they are *going* to do but things they have done, instead.
11:50 πŸ”— omf_ Second would be to take the post down in the future if it never pans out. People are highly judgmental and laying bare all the things you said you were going to do and did not do does not sound like a good idea.
11:50 πŸ”— omf_ We have to market ourselves to a certain extent if we want people to pay attention to what we are saying.
14:44 πŸ”— Smiley GLaDOS: you there bud?
14:44 πŸ”— GLaDOS da
14:44 πŸ”— Smiley who's the provider for the vps we use?
14:44 πŸ”— GLaDOS OVH is.
14:44 πŸ”— Smiley and is there a referal link you'd want me to use if i found someone who wants one?
14:45 πŸ”— GLaDOS I'm not sure. Let me check.
14:46 πŸ”— GLaDOS Smiley: https://ultraseedbox.com/aff.php?aff=134
14:47 πŸ”— Smiley those the ones with ssh access GLaDOS ?
14:48 πŸ”— GLaDOS Yeah, the VPSes.
14:48 πŸ”— GLaDOS Dedis as well.
14:48 πŸ”— Smiley cool
14:48 πŸ”— GLaDOS (I got the usb-2g dedi)
15:40 πŸ”— omf_ Alcohol is what this day needed. I got so much busy work, a few beers will help that along ;)
16:50 πŸ”— SketchCow omf_: One of the goals of being semi-famous for archiving is people come to me all the time with collections they did years and years ago and I get them into archive.org.
16:52 πŸ”— omf_ and that is good. I am talking about the people who say they are going to do something and never even collect the data.
16:55 πŸ”— SketchCow Well, those people will die and we'll use them for fertilizer
16:55 πŸ”— SketchCow But we need to move on Xenga
16:55 πŸ”— SketchCow And the Myspace thing, that's a disaster
16:55 πŸ”— SketchCow Although in some ways, I'm happy
16:55 πŸ”— omf_ yeah I figured out how to get the user list from xenga
16:56 πŸ”— SketchCow Because people are horrified, and the gap is felt, etc.
17:46 πŸ”— omf_ I see bitsavers got walnut creek cdroms. Does one of their members have a site backup?
17:55 πŸ”— balrog bitsavers is mirrored by SketchCow and others
18:01 πŸ”— omf_ My bad, I meant does one of the bit savers members have a backup of walnut creek?
18:03 πŸ”— balrog *that* I don't know. where did these cdroms show up?
18:04 πŸ”— omf_ I learned from SketchCow's tweet
18:06 πŸ”— SketchCow No.
18:06 πŸ”— godane uploaded: http://archive.org/details/This_Week_in_Computer_Hardware_125
18:06 πŸ”— omf_ :(
18:06 πŸ”— SketchCow bitsavers consists of documents and bits digitized by Al Kossow of the Computer History Museum, who has his own items, and his own collection from the CHM archives, that he's digitizing as fast as he can.
18:07 πŸ”— godane all of 2011 of this week in computer hardware is going to be uploaded shortly
22:17 πŸ”— godane i need help
22:18 πŸ”— godane trying to mirror a podcast based on the burner feed
22:18 πŸ”— godane problem is the files have spaces
22:19 πŸ”— godane so i can't do this:
22:19 πŸ”— godane for i in $(cat *.html | grep .mp3 | sed 's|.*href="||g' | sed 's|">Play.*||g'); do
22:19 πŸ”— godane wget -c $i
22:19 πŸ”— godane done
22:19 πŸ”— godane cause it will drop off at the first space
22:19 πŸ”— omf_ have you tried wget -c "$i"
22:20 πŸ”— godane it fails there too
22:20 πŸ”— godane its redirecting
22:23 πŸ”— omf_ godane, how about providing some actual data like one of the html files you are parsing with that little bit of bash
22:23 πŸ”— godane http://feeds.feedburner.com/afterserenity
22:23 πŸ”— godane thats the html file
22:25 πŸ”— godane i'm just going download it by hand
22:25 πŸ”— godane also this podcast is to to be ziped up
22:26 πŸ”— godane mostly cause there pdfs and other stuff in it
22:47 πŸ”— Smiley I wonder if jdownloader likes mediafire.
22:48 πŸ”— Coderjoe "- Will there be DRM on the downloads? Yes, these will be DRM files. We know a lot of people have strong opinions about this, and we've talked a lot about it internally. In the end, we feel like DRM gives the download value."
22:49 πŸ”— DFJustin spoken like a true marketroid
22:51 πŸ”— Aranje read: marketing and sales want drm but the sysadmins threw a bitchfit. they got overruled though.
22:51 πŸ”— Coderjoe also "- Why only download? What about Blu-ray or DVD? Both works were created in the days before Blu-ray, and are at SD specs. So it doesn't make sense to put them on Blu-ray, and anyway, we would have to delay the entire Blu-ray release until Jan. 1, 2014, and nobody wants that to happen!"
22:51 πŸ”— Smiley kickstarter?
22:51 πŸ”— Coderjoe yes
22:51 πŸ”— Smiley how did I guess?
22:51 πŸ”— Coderjoe http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/693293489/time-of-eve-the-movie-on-blu-ray/posts/507328 (backer only)
22:53 πŸ”— Coderjoe though there is a newer update that says they'll do it as a physical release on or with the feature
22:54 πŸ”— Coderjoe and what is with the misconception that if it is on a bluray that it must be HD?
22:55 πŸ”— Aranje my argument in favor of that would be orthogonal to it... that bluray disks are more expensive and regular dvd drives more widely supported
22:56 πŸ”— omf_ Mainly because bluray was promoted as a HD video disk to the masses
22:56 πŸ”— Coderjoe Aranje: but the main feature will already be on bluray. why ship extra features on a separate DVD when there is still room to spare on the BD?
22:57 πŸ”— Aranje Coderjoe:) dunno :) I'm missing any and all context, so I couldn't possibly answer that :P
22:59 πŸ”— Aranje seems funny on the face of it though
23:00 πŸ”— godane so i'm watching one of the lost episodes of TWiCH
23:00 πŸ”— godane episode 171 does have video links at all
23:01 πŸ”— godane but file is on server
23:01 πŸ”— godane http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-computer-hardware/171
