[12:11] uploaded: https://archive.org/details/g4tv.com-thefeed-missing-images-20130617 [12:11] 84 images saved [14:30] I upgraded my internet speed and now I have more random disconnections than before [14:43] I believe we should all start internalizing the idea that we are archivists 2.0. We save all the things as often as we can and use cutting edge technology to do it [14:44] the recycle bin's nemesis? [14:45] our warriors will trample the recycle bins [14:46] We do not have to follow bullshit institutional rules set by people who cannot even turn on a computer [14:46] My most rage inducing example is the Comic Book Library at Ohio State University [14:46] replace "empty recycle bin" with "i'm done with this, upload it to AT instead" [14:47] They received numerous estates worth of material. They spent 10 years sitting on it trying to figure out how to digitize it. At the same time their partner Michigian State University brought a ton of material online [14:48] This was 2000 to the present time frame. Even now they have not started digitizing anything [14:48] It fucking blows my mind how technology stupid people are who are supposed to care about protecting and saving things [14:49] On top of all that to get access to the material you have to go in there at certain times of the year and you cannot scan shit [14:50] and we are not talking about fragile papers either. This stuff was curated by the original owner and is in pristine condition. Now is the time to digitize it before too many hands on it fucks it up [14:50] but noooooooo. Mother fuckers are going to take another decade or more to SCAN FUCKING PAPERS IN!!! [14:52] We really need robot scanners so these tools are no longer in the process [14:55] All you swashbucklers are the future [14:55] * omf_ makes Smiley walk the plank [15:03] omf_: google has a robotic scanner but it tears some pages [15:03] Sounds like we are getting closed [15:03] I wonder what the $50-100 cost breakdown is for scanning a book [15:03] I bet less than half that is the human labor [15:04] Equipment maintenance can be costly [15:12] i missed all the NSA archival jokes [15:15] Don't worry, just ask the Government for them later. [15:16] http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jun/17/edward-snowden-nsa-files-whistleblower is live now [15:31] omf_: "Comic Book Library at Ohio State University" -- what did they do now? :/ [15:31] say "no scanning"? [15:34] balrog: sounds more like just the usual institutional m.o. http://dilbert.com/fast/1996-07-05/ [15:52] I could take pictures of works but I could not get scans [15:52] and the last time I went in there I had a junk camera so it wasn't worth the effort [17:13] omf_: is that policy or what? [17:21] They do not provide scanners or other equipment. [17:21] Their policy is mostly undefined. The basic rule is stuff does not leave the building and not everything is always available [18:01] spotted on 2012-09-23 at southport road and I65 just south of Indianapolis: http://i.imgur.com/xpZ6lwq.jpg [18:02] (approximate location, looking north from https://maps.google.com/?ll=39.665814,-86.088374 ) [18:04] haha cool [18:05] scrapbooking store chain, but I had never heard of them before then [19:24] I just scanned in another one of my photo albums. It feels good [19:35] so ftp of arcade.demon.co.uk was being a stupid [19:35] there willl be no wget log of it [19:36] i usually use lftp's mirror command [19:36] i got a go chuck of it now [19:37] over 300mb [19:38] *good chuck [19:42] looks like the data folder doen't care about case [19:42] cause access to ftp show Data folder [19:43] but all urls point to data folder [20:02] alard: When you have a chance I'd love to talk to you about a few projects. [20:03] SketchCow: I have some time now. (To talk, mostly, not necessarily for projects.) [22:46] oh dear [22:46] my scanner is glitching [22:46] this is not a good sign [23:02] SketchCow: where is the Fidonet Presentation and Q&A? [23:03] the link on your page is pointing to the wikipedia speak
