02:41 🔗 hook54321 PSA: FamilySearch is discontinuing distribution of their microfilm (they probably have the biggest collection of microfilm records).
02:41 🔗 hook54321 The last day to order microfilm is August 31. They plan to have everything digitized and online by the end of 2020, however laws could restrict what they are able to put online. If there are any specific records you are interested in that aren't already available online, you might want to consider having them sent to a Family History Center. (I think there might be a small fee)
03:01 🔗 namespace So.
03:01 🔗 Asparagir I do a lot of research in Poland and Ukraine, two places where FamilySearch often doesn't yet have the right to put digital copies of the records on their website. So I'm still dependent on physical microfilm for many more years to come. Consequently, I have a microfilm drawer at my local FHL with my name on it. :-)
03:01 🔗 namespace https://archive.org/details/political_ads
03:01 🔗 namespace This is cool.
03:02 🔗 namespace But it occurs to me that there are generally disclosure laws for other elections that make you say "this ad paid for by" usually with specific wording you could search for within a specific timeframe of an election.
03:02 🔗 namespace Moreover, PAC's, candidates, and other entities have to register in a way that's generally public and online.
03:03 🔗 namespace You could make an automated machine to archive sponsored political ads pertaining to just about *every* election at any level where sufficient disclosure laws exist.
