JAAI've begun archiving the Wine.Woot forums. I'm retrieving the mappings of post ID to thread page now and will retrieve the actual thread pages in a second step.
So far, Amazon doesn't seem to care about my 16 concurrent connections. Doing 10k post IDs in a bit over 5 minutes currently. If they let me continue at this speed, this should be done in 2-3 days.
Note that I'm *not* grabbing the forum indices or any other parts of Wine.Woot for now.

ola_norskyeah, my harddrive is a small ssd, and i'm not deleting muh games :/ [21:36]
astridah, fair [21:37]
ola_norskso i mounted an usb stick to a /tmp/ folder, hoping the "inquisition" process gives me time to do it.
reddit.com/r/elsagate ...2 new channels since yesterday
[21:37]
***jschwart has quit IRC (Quit: Konversation terminated!) [21:39]
ola_norski'm not even sure why i bother; spite perhaps [21:41]
astridin future, /tmp/ isn't the best choice because some systems delete old files in /tmp/
i like to use /mnt/
[21:41]
JAA+1 for /mnt [21:42]
astridi've also seen /vol and /media [21:42]
ola_norskit's temporary mount :D what are you!? some kind of person that turns the computer off?? :D
uptime!
[21:42]
JAAFiles in /tmp might get deleted *at any time*, not just at a reboot.
Depends on the OS, of course.
[21:44]
ola_norskhmmm
did not know that, i often create folders in tmp when i know i won't need it afterwards
[21:44]
JAAYeah, so do I. In general, it shouldn't happen, but I believe it's part of the specifications that applications (and users, duh) should be able to run correctly even if files in /tmp have disappeared. [21:46]
ola_norskso if i should run out of storage, even manually created tmp stuff might get deleted? [21:47]
astridthe software that does this is called 'tmpreaper' and it defaults to deleting files that are 30 days old i think [21:47]
ola_norskseems i don't have that
it would be useful though since i also often use tmp to download stuff
and i've been to scared to run rm -R * on the folder, so i have actually had to decide reboot in the past; just to clear out tmp
[21:49]
astridyea fair [21:51]
ola_norskis everything in tmp purely temporary? i mean, could it mess up anything that's running, if it were deleted..E.g browser sessions, etc.. ? [21:54]
JAAIt certainly could. But yes, that would be the idea.
But for example, tmux stores the socket for communication in there. I'd assume that it breaks when you rm that.
[21:54]
astridthings will break in small and temporary ways [21:55]
ola_norskIm definetly going to try out tmpreaper [21:56]
astridyou should wait to install it though :P [21:57]

[22:10]
anyway. Any norwegians in here? [22:23]

ola_norskI'm an advocate for there being a IA mirror at "Green Mountain" https://greenmountain.no/ ..So if there are norwegians in here. Preferably someone with connection to organisations like Dataforeningen etc..Could we make it happen?
ola_norsk only Norwegian? :/
[22:27]
astridwell there are a bunch of people here, but probably only a dozen or so are reading right now
pretty sure i've seen another norwegian person here (but i dont keep track of where people are)
[22:32]
***Ravenloft has joined #archiveteam-bs [22:33]
ola_norskanyway, the mirrors of IA is just on the north american quarter of the northern hemisphere, right? [22:33]
astridi think so yes [22:34]
ola_norsk(thinking of the globe as a ball, having four corners "of the world")
what if planet nibiry finally comes along, and just smashes into that quadrant? :/
nibiru*
[22:34]
JAAThere's a mirror at the library of Alexandria, but I believe that's ridiculously outdated.
http://www.bibalex.org/isis/frontend/archive/archive_web.aspx "The Internet Archive at the BA includes the web collection of 1996 through 2007."
Just missing ten years worth of archives.
[22:35]
ola_norski'm being facetious of course, but you get my point? [22:37]
JAAI absolutely agree with you. A mirror on another continent would be great. [22:37]
ola_norskaye
the optimal to start with would on southern+eastern hemissphere, like australia or japan or something
[22:37]
astridto what end? [22:38]
ola_norskastrid: like you said, "Why risk it?" [22:39]
astridmounting to a different filesystem location is a distinct consideration from where to site your second datacenter [22:39]
ola_norsknot if a meteor or solar flare suddenly smash into it :/
anyway, just a thought i've been having
[22:40]
astridboth of those are global cataclysms that would have further reaching consequences than IA disappearing
yes, i do agree that it would suck to lose IA at the same time as everything else
[22:40]
ola_norskthere's no "i" in "team", as they say [22:42]
astrid? ok [22:43]
ola_norskhey, i'm sorry you north americans got hit by an extraterrestrial boulder from outer space..But don't think me cynical for wanting to preserve IA :D
this got really dark i guess. But yeah.
there's seed banks..
now, what use are those if people don't even know how to farm?

[22:52]
JAAola_norsk: Wasn't there some water leak at the seedvault recently?
The Svalbard one, I mean.
[22:53]
ola_norski have no idea really, but it is a "mirror", and by far not the only seedvault
i would guess it was internal leak though, since it's pretty freaking frozen just outside my door at the moment, and i'm way more south than svaldbard :D
[22:55]
astridah you live in the frozen north
it's extremely wet here in seattle right now
[22:57]
ola_norsknah it's more rainy here as well [22:57]
astrid25mm of rain in the past eight hours [22:57]

(just to keep people bothering to live there)

ola_norskHere's what i think happened; The "caulking" of the roofing failed to keep waterproof..BUT, you can be sure that caulcing were neither patented or invented by norwegians ;)
so, who to blame?
my guess, the same material that's used in underwater tunnels were used
if i had to guess
[23:13]
astridconcrete always leaks when it's new [23:16]
ola_norskit's not concrete [23:16]

ola_norski highly doubt that is what is/was used. I live not far from a tunnel that is 262,4m below sea level (the deepest on euro roads).
but if so; "Live and learn" i guess :D
[23:25]
