PurpleSymSo, I was under the impression ArchiveBot used seesaw-kit under the hood (that is for job distribution). But apparently it directly connects to a Redis DB. [18:23]
I’m not sure how to fit the Chrome-based crawler into that setup. (Should I even try?) [18:28]
JAAIt does use seesaw. The job retrieval is implemented as a seesaw task. But it also connects directly to the Redis DB for some things (settings, logs, etc.).
(The job retrieval task connects to the DB as well, obviously, but that would be irrelevant to the scraper itself.)
[18:35]
PurpleSymYou’re right, it is a seesaw task. But that task seems to be specific to archivebot and not a generic seesaw routine.
(I was hoping for “plug and play”.)
[18:38]
JAAYeah, but the job retrieval isn't really relevant to the crawler. It uses a normal WgetDownload task for launching wpull.
But yes, the crawler would need to be able to communicate to the DB as well for settings, ignores, !aborts, etc.
[18:40]
PurpleSymAlright, that means ArchiveBot spawn wpull with a special plugin doing these things? [18:45]

ola_norskhi. I notice that pdf's are turned into Daisy format. My grandfather, who was blind most of his life, left behind quite a lot of (norwegian) Daisy audio books
would that be something to archive?
not sure how translation would work on them :/
at some point in time, Norsk Blindeforbund (norwegian blind people's national organisation) moved from tapes to Daisy, so it's quite a lot
if anything, it might serve as translations, since i'm sure the majority of the books were originally foreign/english?
i'm not sure how it goes with copyright, but Norsk Blindeforbund is pretty much a public/state owned norwegian organisation. Operating basically in same manner as library.
so the rights to the recordings would strictly speaking be property of norwegian people

ola_norskhell, maybe they'd even upload their catalog themselves if asked ? https://www.blindeforbundet.no/
it would in some cases save them from sending out the DVDs..
