trent-nz's clock is out of sync, which causes DNS queries to fail because the RRSIG timestamps are off. NTP can't fix the clock because resolving the NTP domain names fails due to this. |

I use default config, so I think DNSSEC is enabled by default |

Will restoring back to an earlier restore point using system restore before after downloading Windows updates, but before rebooting Windows 10 brick my PC? |
20:12
๐
|
icedice |
I think I've run into some kind of malware, possibly with admin permissions enabled for that browser. Windows firewall blocked something, but I don't know how exposed I am to it, so I'm thinking it might be best to restore to an earlier restore point before rebooting. |
20:12
๐
|
icedice |
At least my files haven't been encrypted and this happened 17 hours ago or so, so I don't think it's ransomware at least |
20:12
๐
|
icedice |
Those tend to lock everything down before reboot as far as I know |
20:13
๐
|
icedice |
I have a backup, but it's a bit outdated and doesn't have a lot of newer files on it :/ |

I think I'll avoid plugging in my external HDD that I have my backups on to update the backup before I know how bad it is, in case it would be ransomware that could spread to the backup drive |

20:19
๐
|
icedice |
Igloo: Thanks. Is it the system restore you think should be ok to do, just to be clear? |
20:20
๐
|
icedice |
Hmm, well I guess it wouldn't help if the malware got into the BIOS or something like that |
20:25

20:26

Yeah it should be OK, It won't be in the BIOS or anything like that |
20:26
๐
|
Igloo |
But if it's a file not changed by the restore it won't "go away" |
20:26
๐
|
Igloo |
I'd run malware bytes |
20:26
๐
|
Igloo |
and also run a full av scan |
20:26
๐
|
Igloo |
And don't plug anything in until it's clear |
20:27
๐
|
icedice |
I had two USBs and my phone plugged in when it happened |
20:27
๐
|
icedice |
The phone should be ok though since it's Android and the malware is targeting Windows |
20:28
๐
|
Igloo |
yeah that'll be ok, i'd just run a full malware and AV scan |
20:28
๐
|
Igloo |
and go from there |
20:28
๐
|
Igloo |
It might be nothing |
20:29
๐

coderobe: find without -print0 isn't much better than ls though. |
21:23
๐

icedice |
It's to make it easier to get the new stuff that isn't backed up yet in case I get ransomware'd when I reboot |
21:23

Which is unlikely, but still |
21:27
๐

how about we start a project to snscrape all twitter accounts > 10,000 followers? |

coderobe: ls is fine for most purposes like quickly getting a list. If you need recursion just do the same with find (and remove the first two characters of each line) |
21:36
๐
|
coderobe |
you don't need to remove the first two characters, with or without them you end up with a relative path to the found file |
21:36
๐
|
JAA |
VoynichCr: That would be nice, yeah. Do we have such a list? Another thing I've been thinking about is a setup to continuously archive some social media accounts. |
21:40
๐
|
VoynichCr |
JAA: that continuous archive can be done submitting new tweets (with since parameter) daily for all monitored accounts |
21:40

first a complete archive, then daily diff |
21:40
๐

Yup |
21:45

i dont have such a list, but i think it should be easy to parse it crawling twitter. Or we can start the project with a list of popular accounts |
