01:31
🔗
|
PatC |
cool, thanks |
02:11
🔗
|
Famicoman |
I went mad the last time I tried to archive dead revision3 shows |
02:16
🔗
|
arrith |
there's probably some black magic way to script it |
02:18
🔗
|
Famicoman |
nah, it's not that |
02:18
🔗
|
Famicoman |
I was fine with going to each page and downloading by hand |
02:18
🔗
|
Famicoman |
there's weird little things |
02:18
🔗
|
Famicoman |
like I think diggreel episode 141 is missing, indigital episode 12 is unclickable, lil internet superstar has no episode 3 |
02:19
🔗
|
Famicoman |
then foodmob and epicfu have numbering problems |
02:19
🔗
|
Famicoman |
so you can't tell if the episodes are just gone or if they numbered them wrong |
02:19
🔗
|
Famicoman |
and then there are shows that only have random-ass formats for no reason |
02:19
🔗
|
Famicoman |
and then there are the shows that are just gone from the site like geekdrome and notmtv |
02:20
🔗
|
Famicoman |
it's a pain in the ass the way they structure things |
02:20
🔗
|
arrith |
ah dang, yeah that's some pretty tedious manual stuff |
02:21
🔗
|
godane |
Famicoman: i have full backup of crankygeeks |
02:21
🔗
|
Famicoman |
that's pretty cool |
02:21
🔗
|
godane |
i even got 6 episodes not listed |
02:21
🔗
|
Famicoman |
I always wanted to get a full commandn because I felt that was going to go under |
02:22
🔗
|
godane |
but that was when the url was simple to guess |
02:23
🔗
|
Famicoman |
when I was getting at rev3, I was trying to get full runs of xvids, and then they made a blog post about discontinuing xvid encodes |
02:23
🔗
|
Famicoman |
so then I had to get full runs of h264 sd and hd |
02:24
🔗
|
godane |
the first 25 of diggnation was simple |
02:24
🔗
|
godane |
only mp4 phone version |
02:24
🔗
|
godane |
and mp3 |
02:24
🔗
|
Famicoman |
haha, I love that |
02:25
🔗
|
Famicoman |
are you just going for best quality or what? |
02:25
🔗
|
Famicoman |
I need to get my stuff sorted and see what's left to snag |
02:26
🔗
|
Famicoman |
especially those wine shows that look like a pain in the ass |
02:26
🔗
|
godane |
i'm getting better quality episodes for diggnation after 95 |
02:27
🔗
|
SketchCow |
HELLO HI |
02:27
🔗
|

Famicoman, do you have the descriptions for the shows? |
02:28

02:28
🔗
|

02:28

02:28
🔗

I've already mailed Jason Scott about archiving amateur radio BBSes. There's a system called packet radio that evolved rather parallel with phone based BBSes. He was interested, so I'm now trying to figure out whether to create a project on the archive team wiki or just prepare as much data as I can and ship it to you |
19:14
🔗
|
chronomex |
will be sitting here for another 20 minutes anyway |
19:14

|
jstarek |
ok |
19:14

|
chronomex |
hmmmm. |
19:14
🔗
|
chronomex |
that sounds like a Jason Scott project more than an Archiveteam project |
19:15
🔗
|
jstarek |
I mean, it seems like there are quite a few dormant projects in the wiki, so I assume you don't really have all that much manpower... so I thought I'd try to make it as easy as possible for you |
19:15
🔗
|
jstarek |
oh, ok :-) |
19:16
🔗
|
chronomex |
sounds good, though |
19:16
🔗
|
jstarek |
Would it need to be more Internet-related to become an Archive Team project? |
19:18
🔗
|
chronomex |
archiveteam focuses on things that are, um, actively popular |
19:18
🔗
|
chronomex |
and major contributors to culture |
19:20
🔗
|
jstarek |
ah, I see. So I suppose I'd better organize the data collection myself, then, and just send the collection to Jason Scott in person? |

Jason Scott projects are awesome. |

(wouldn't be too much trouble for me, I'm just asking for "proper protocol" reasons) |
19:21
🔗
|
SketchCow |
chronomex is right - you're assembling a nice package for me to then get into archives both personal and at the main internet archive. |

You can certainly point out it's going to a non profit archive with plenty of space. |
19:23
🔗
|
SketchCow |
If that helps someone be convinced to help contribute. |
19:25
🔗
|
jstarek |
I don't think that'll be a problem because packet radio has always been completely open and contents have always been public (due to ham radio licensing laws). The only thing I worry is whether the archive will be properly readable without BBS software to sort stuff into categories and so on, but I'll figure that out. Thanks for your input so far! |

@sundown I also don't know of other versions (perhaps curl does some of this out of the box, but I don't really use that), but you can get gzipped pages like this: http://bit.ly/rQtMhv |
