05:19 🔗 balrog hi SketchCow
05:19 🔗 underscor Sup SketchCow
05:19 🔗 balrog freenode screwed me over and is blocking connections from AT&T's NAT :(
05:19 🔗 underscor EFNet > freenode
05:19 🔗 balrog yeah but there are channels I'm in on freenode that I miss :(
05:19 🔗 balrog "syn NOTICE Connections through this VPN provider is no longer supported on freenode. Email support@freenode.net if you have any questions."
05:20 🔗 lemonkey m00
05:20 🔗 balrog hi lemonkey
05:21 🔗 lemonkey balrog: i'm on #noisebridge via freenode and i used to be able to use it on the go from the iphone with colloque but not anymore
05:21 🔗 lemonkey colloquy
05:21 🔗 balrog lemonkey: can you ask in #freenode or whatever their support channel is, what's going on?
05:21 🔗 lemonkey balrog: yea in a few
05:21 🔗 balrog I emailed their support email and it did say a ticket was automatically created

05:22 🔗 lemonkey k
05:26 🔗 SketchCow http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahseverson/6245395188/in/photostream/lightbox/
05:26 🔗 SketchCow OK, next, let me fix the whole thing with the thumbnails and the mail
05:27 🔗 SketchCow moving metadata warriors to wiki
05:27 🔗 underscor Ha! I need one of those

05:33 🔗 balrog heh.
05:33 🔗 underscor It really hit home when I realized early deadlines for college applications are due the first
05:33 🔗 underscor It's like... "Fuck, I'm not ready to decide this yet"
05:33 🔗 balrog eh, I was close to deadline myself /:
05:36 🔗 SketchCow Not sure what's going on with the thumbnail thing.
05:36 🔗 lemonkey balrog: no fix for colloquy for iphone on freenode unless you want to build from source http://colloquy.info/project/ticket/2590
05:37 🔗 lemonkey balrog: people are recommending limechat for ios
05:37 🔗 lemonkey it supports SASL
05:37 🔗 balrog lemonkey: the issue is not lack of SASL
05:37 🔗 balrog the Colloquy app has SASL support just fine
05:37 🔗 lemonkey hm
05:37 🔗 balrog is this what they told you?
05:37 🔗 lemonkey yea i haven't checked colloquy for sasl yet
05:37 🔗 balrog is this what they told you???
05:38 🔗 balrog if so, I have log
05:38 🔗 lemonkey yes
05:38 🔗 balrog ok
05:38 🔗 lemonkey so what's up with SASL and AT&T?
05:39 🔗 balrog lemonkey: see PM
05:39 🔗 lemonkey done
05:39 🔗 balrog oh, via AT&T requires SASL. but colloquy for iphone has supported it for a while.
05:40 🔗 balrog lmk what they tell you.
05:40 🔗 lemonkey vpn provider?
05:40 🔗 balrog there is no "VPN provider"
05:40 🔗 balrog the "VPN" is the AT&T NAT router.
05:40 🔗 balrog all iPhones go through an AT&T NAT.
05:41 🔗 balrog well, AT&T iPhones. verizon iphones go through a verizon NAT
05:41 🔗 balrog etc
05:41 🔗 lemonkey k
05:41 🔗 lemonkey relaying
05:41 🔗 balrog see PM once more
05:41 🔗 balrog I wish I could be in that channel :/
05:42 🔗 balrog unfortunately I'm on 3G right now.
05:42 🔗 balrog actually webchat may work
05:43 🔗 lemonkey should
05:43 🔗 lemonkey wonder if someone nefarious ended up getting the att nat ip ranges banned
05:44 🔗 lemonkey for lul or something else
05:44 🔗 balrog that would be annoying :(
05:44 🔗 lemonkey stranger things have happened :p
05:44 🔗 lemonkey 10:42PM <b0o-yeah> lemonkey: yeah you are def going to need a staffer to help you with that one...or perhaps wait till the reply via email
05:45 🔗 SketchCow OK, archiveteam@archiveteam.org works now.
05:46 🔗 balrog lemonkey: urgh, yeah.
05:47 🔗 balrog apparently a google search indicated this isn't the first instance
05:48 🔗 lemonkey i'm sure they'll get back to you
05:49 🔗 balrog lemonkey: we'll see :)
05:55 🔗 lemonkey plug "the" into google+ search and select "most recent"
06:15 🔗 SketchCow Just for the record
06:15 🔗 SketchCow If you slap a worker at a McDonald's and jump the counter, guess what.
06:28 🔗 chronomex you get police called?
06:28 🔗 SketchCow They hit you with a metal bar.
06:28 🔗 SketchCow Go look it up, the video is awesome.
06:28 🔗 SketchCow METAL BAR METAL BAR METAL BAR
06:28 🔗 SketchCow very definitive, no hesitation strokes
06:29 🔗 chronomex have a link?
06:34 🔗 SketchCow Mcdonalds beating
06:34 🔗 SketchCow Just look for that
06:34 🔗 SketchCow It's everywhere
06:35 🔗 SketchCow http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8360608/women-beaten-after-jumping-maccas-counter
06:38 🔗 chronomex huh
06:42 🔗 chronomex crazy
07:50 🔗 m0lson cool stuff
07:58 🔗 m0lson are you guys actively archiving scene content ?
08:03 🔗 chronomex I don't think so, do you have something specific that needs it?
08:05 🔗 m0lson no, but I am in a position to share
08:06 🔗 chronomex the best thing to do if you have loads of content is to put it on archive.org
08:06 🔗 chronomex it's quite easy: zip it up, give it a name and a description, and use their uploader to deposit it
08:08 🔗 m0lson am talking about like 100TBs of tv movies ect
08:08 🔗 m0lson + the nfos that come with them
08:08 🔗 m0lson most of it makes it into the public domain
08:10 🔗 m0lson i'll do more reading
08:14 🔗 m0lson or a compleate archive of xbox360 games
08:15 🔗 chronomex aye
08:16 🔗 m0lson stuff like that
08:17 🔗 chronomex we don't really do that because you guys do such a great job of keeping it around
08:17 🔗 chronomex remember geocities?
08:17 🔗 chronomex yeah. not the same.
08:19 🔗 m0lson yeah, no problem. just wondering how large of a scope you guys are taking
08:19 🔗 chronomex we go for the things that assholes these days call "user-generated content" and try to monetize
08:19 🔗 chronomex small dusty bits of our culture
08:21 🔗 chronomex things you won't notice are gone, but are surprisingly important to structuring discourse
08:21 🔗 DFJustin it would be nice to save big collections of pirate stuff but I don't know that there is a good venue for that right now
08:22 🔗 chronomex yeah.
08:24 🔗 chronomex good to have, not our focus
08:24 🔗 m0lson the amount of space needed to store all of it would have to be massive
08:24 🔗 m0lson i'll see if i can get my hands on some pre archives for you guys
08:25 🔗 m0lson list of everything released
08:25 🔗 chronomex would you like to start a long-term scene archive site? ;)
08:26 🔗 m0lson I wouldnt have the money for the bw or hardrives
08:27 🔗 m0lson i can dream though
08:27 🔗 m0lson they introduced a FLAC ruleset last week
08:28 🔗 m0lson so now prefect copys of CD's are being pred now
08:34 🔗 m0lson http://scenerules.irc.gs/
08:34 🔗 m0lson old and current rulesets
08:36 🔗 chronomex pred? ruleset?
08:37 🔗 m0lson released, rules that releases have to conform to
08:37 🔗 chronomex ah
20:14 🔗 balrog who here was doing the Mac.com stuff?
20:14 🔗 balrog homepage.mac.com :p
20:27 🔗 Coderjoe on the freenode 3g thing: a month ago my friend couldn't connect from tmobile, but a could from vzw
20:33 🔗 alard balrog: I am doing something. Why?
20:33 🔗 balrog alard: I'm wondering if there's a list yet
20:34 🔗 balrog so if I see interesting pages I can add to them
20:34 🔗 balrog Coderjoe: get the errors, send to freenode support
20:34 🔗 balrog apparently they're mistagging 3G ranges (which should be SASL) as VPN (which are banned)
20:34 🔗 Coderjoe why are they banning vpns?
20:44 🔗 alard balrog: If you have a list of interesting urls, it's probably best if you make a list and add them to the wiki.
20:44 🔗 balrog hrm, ok :/
20:44 🔗 balrog I don't have a list, but I frequently hit a homepage.mac.com site
20:45 🔗 alard Ah, I see. I'm still not sure what the best way to archive homepage.mac.com/web.me.com is.
20:46 🔗 alard I see at least two problems:
20:47 🔗 alard there are quite a few sites that are saved in a subdirectory of the user's account (homepage.mac.com/username/something/) where you can't get from /username/ to /username/something/, because /username/ is a 403/404.
20:47 🔗 alard So it's probably not enough to make a list of usernames.
20:48 🔗 alard Second problem: the iWeb sites made with early iWeb versions. They have the horrible habit of reading their menu structure from xml files, which means they can't be archived completely with wget.
20:48 🔗 alard These sites with widgets need special care, to retrieve and parse the xml files, for instance.
20:49 🔗 alard Right now I'm crawling google to get as many homepage.mac.com/web.me.com urls as possible.
20:52 🔗 alard Maybe we should archive these sites with Heritrix with a custom extractor to get the links from these xml files.
20:54 🔗 balrog ahh, yeah.
20:54 🔗 balrog how do you get those xml files?
20:54 🔗 Coderjoe whee. more wiki spam
20:55 🔗 balrog alard: site:homepage.mac.com in google returns About 1,840,000 results
20:55 🔗 balrog "homepage.mac.com" returns 20,700,000 results
20:56 🔗 balrog that's a lto
20:56 🔗 balrog lot*
20:57 🔗 alard At the moment I have a little over 20 million urls (not entirely de-duplicated).
20:57 🔗 balrog OK.
21:05 🔗 alard Sometimes the page contains the url of the xml file, sometimes it doesn't but it's hardcoded in one of the js files. Here, for example: http://web.me.com/jenileehallam/FSOF/Home.html
21:05 🔗 balrog that's annoying!
21:06 🔗 alard http://web.me.com/jenileehallam/FSOF/feed.xml has the list of urls in the navigation bar.
21:06 🔗 alard It's even more annoying because it isn't just the navigation bar, there are other widgets with other xml files as well.
21:07 🔗 alard There's a gallery widget with its own xml file, and there probably are more widgets, but it's hard to find them.
21:07 🔗 balrog argh! :(
21:07 🔗 balrog why did they do that? :/
21:14 🔗 alard Apparently they improved it in later versions.
21:15 🔗 balrog I see.
21:17 🔗 alard So I think it would be necessary to do some custom stuff, maybe Heritrix-based. The downside of that is that everyone who helps downloading has to install and run Heritrix, instead of a simple bash script.
21:19 🔗 alard Here's another, the blog widget: http://web.mac.com/trumpetcall/TCCM_Blog/Blog/Blog.html doesn't have the blog content on the page, you'd have to look in http://web.mac.com/trumpetcall/TCCM_Blog/Blog/blog-main.xml for that.
21:33 🔗 balrog argh.
21:33 🔗 balrog yeah, I see that. *sigh*
