[00:06] anyone think one of the metadata projects could qualify for this: http://sigkdd.org/kdd2012/kddcup_cfp.shtml ? [01:54] ugh. [03:36] wtf, freenode is now blocking all of AT&T 3G users? :( [04:25] balrog: noticed that [04:25] I emailed them [04:25] is there a reason? [04:25] it's annoying, I'm already using SASL :() [04:25] :( * [04:25] no reason given [04:25] syn KILL (Facility Blocked) [04:25] syn NOTICE Connections through this VPN provider is no longer supported on freenode. Email support@freenode.net if you have any questions. [04:25] they already force SASL for 3G connections. [04:35] lemonkey: you're blocked too? [05:18] Hi, gang. [05:19] hi SketchCow [05:19] Sup SketchCow [05:19] freenode screwed me over and is blocking connections from AT&T's NAT :( [05:19] EFNet > freenode [05:19] yeah but there are channels I'm in on freenode that I miss :( [05:19] "syn NOTICE Connections through this VPN provider is no longer supported on freenode. Email support@freenode.net if you have any questions." [05:20] m00 [05:20] hi lemonkey [05:21] balrog: i'm on #noisebridge via freenode and i used to be able to use it on the go from the iphone with colloque but not anymore [05:21] colloquy [05:21] lemonkey: can you ask in #freenode or whatever their support channel is, what's going on? [05:21] balrog: yea in a few [05:21] I emailed their support email and it did say a ticket was automatically created [05:21] ok thanks :) [05:22] I have no access there right now [05:22] k [05:26] http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahseverson/6245395188/in/photostream/lightbox/ [05:26] OK, next, let me fix the whole thing with the thumbnails and the mail [05:27] moving metadata warriors to wiki [05:27] Ha! I need one of those [05:33] Ugh, I've been having this horrible existential crisis lately [05:33] About what I'm going to do with my life, etc [05:33] heh. [05:33] It really hit home when I realized early deadlines for college applications are due the first [05:33] It's like... "Fuck, I'm not ready to decide this yet" [05:33] eh, I was close to deadline myself /: [05:36] Not sure what's going on with the thumbnail thing. [05:36] balrog: no fix for colloquy for iphone on freenode unless you want to build from source http://colloquy.info/project/ticket/2590 [05:37] balrog: people are recommending limechat for ios [05:37] it supports SASL [05:37] lemonkey: the issue is not lack of SASL [05:37] the Colloquy app has SASL support just fine [05:37] hm [05:37] is this what they told you? [05:37] yea i haven't checked colloquy for sasl yet [05:37] is this what they told you??? [05:38] if so, I have log [05:38] yes [05:38] ok [05:38] so what's up with SASL and AT&T? [05:39] lemonkey: see PM [05:39] done [05:39] oh, via AT&T requires SASL. but colloquy for iphone has supported it for a while. [05:40] lmk what they tell you. [05:40] vpn provider? [05:40] there is no "VPN provider" [05:40] the "VPN" is the AT&T NAT router. [05:40] all iPhones go through an AT&T NAT. [05:41] well, AT&T iPhones. verizon iphones go through a verizon NAT [05:41] etc [05:41] k [05:41] relaying [05:41] see PM once more [05:41] I wish I could be in that channel :/ [05:42] unfortunately I'm on 3G right now. [05:42] actually webchat may work [05:43] should [05:43] wonder if someone nefarious ended up getting the att nat ip ranges banned [05:44] for lul or something else [05:44] that would be annoying :( [05:44] stranger things have happened :p [05:44] 10:42PM lemonkey: yeah you are def going to need a staffer to help you with that one...or perhaps wait till the reply via email [05:45] OK, archiveteam@archiveteam.org works now. [05:46] lemonkey: urgh, yeah. [05:47] apparently a google search indicated this isn't the first instance [05:48] i'm sure they'll get back to you [05:49] lemonkey: we'll see :) [05:55] plug "the" into google+ search and select "most recent" [06:15] Just for the record [06:15] If you slap a worker at a McDonald's and jump the counter, guess what. [06:28] you get police called? [06:28] They hit you with a metal bar. [06:28] Go look it up, the video is awesome. [06:28] METAL BAR METAL BAR METAL BAR [06:28] very definitive, no hesitation strokes [06:29] have a link? [06:34] Mcdonalds beating [06:34] Just look for that [06:34] It's everywhere [06:35] http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8360608/women-beaten-after-jumping-maccas-counter [06:38] huh [06:42] crazy [07:50] cool stuff [07:58] are you guys actively archiving scene content ? [08:03] I don't think so, do you have something specific that needs it? [08:05] no, but I am in a position to share [08:06] the best thing to do if you have loads of content is to put it on archive.org [08:06] it's quite easy: zip it up, give it a name and a description, and use their uploader to deposit it [08:08] am talking about like 100TBs of tv movies ect [08:08] + the nfos that come with them [08:08] most of it makes it into the public domain [08:10] i'll do more reading [08:14] or a compleate archive of xbox360 games [08:15] aye [08:16] stuff like that [08:17] we don't really do that because you guys do such a great job of keeping it around [08:17] remember geocities? [08:17] yeah. not the same. [08:19] yeah, no problem. just wondering how large of a scope you guys are taking [08:19] we go for the things that assholes these days call "user-generated content" and try to monetize [08:19] small dusty bits of our culture [08:21] things you won't notice are gone, but are surprisingly important to structuring discourse [08:21] it would be nice to save big collections of pirate stuff but I don't know that there is a good venue for that right now [08:22] yeah. [08:24] good to have, not our focus [08:24] the amount of space needed to store all of it would have to be massive [08:24] i'll see if i can get my hands on some pre archives for you guys [08:25] list of everything released [08:25] would you like to start a long-term scene archive site? ;) [08:26] I wouldnt have the money for the bw or hardrives [08:27] i can dream though [08:27] they introduced a FLAC ruleset last week [08:28] so now prefect copys of CD's are being pred now [08:34] http://scenerules.irc.gs/ [08:34] old and current rulesets [08:36] pred? ruleset? [08:37] released, rules that releases have to conform to [08:37] ah [20:14] who here was doing the Mac.com stuff? [20:14] homepage.mac.com :p [20:27] on the freenode 3g thing: a month ago my friend couldn't connect from tmobile, but a could from vzw [20:33] balrog: I am doing something. Why? [20:33] alard: I'm wondering if there's a list yet [20:34] so if I see interesting pages I can add to them [20:34] Coderjoe: get the errors, send to freenode support [20:34] apparently they're mistagging 3G ranges (which should be SASL) as VPN (which are banned) [20:34] why are they banning vpns? [20:44] balrog: If you have a list of interesting urls, it's probably best if you make a list and add them to the wiki. [20:44] hrm, ok :/ [20:44] I don't have a list, but I frequently hit a homepage.mac.com site [20:45] Ah, I see. I'm still not sure what the best way to archive homepage.mac.com/web.me.com is. [20:46] I see at least two problems: [20:47] there are quite a few sites that are saved in a subdirectory of the user's account (homepage.mac.com/username/something/) where you can't get from /username/ to /username/something/, because /username/ is a 403/404. [20:47] So it's probably not enough to make a list of usernames. [20:48] Second problem: the iWeb sites made with early iWeb versions. They have the horrible habit of reading their menu structure from xml files, which means they can't be archived completely with wget. [20:48] These sites with widgets need special care, to retrieve and parse the xml files, for instance. [20:49] Right now I'm crawling google to get as many homepage.mac.com/web.me.com urls as possible. [20:52] Maybe we should archive these sites with Heritrix with a custom extractor to get the links from these xml files. [20:54] ahh, yeah. [20:54] how do you get those xml files? [20:54] whee. more wiki spam [20:55] alard: site:homepage.mac.com in google returns About 1,840,000 results [20:55] "homepage.mac.com" returns 20,700,000 results [20:56] that's a lto [20:56] lot* [20:57] At the moment I have a little over 20 million urls (not entirely de-duplicated). [20:57] OK. [21:05] Sometimes the page contains the url of the xml file, sometimes it doesn't but it's hardcoded in one of the js files. Here, for example: http://web.me.com/jenileehallam/FSOF/Home.html [21:05] that's annoying! [21:06] http://web.me.com/jenileehallam/FSOF/feed.xml has the list of urls in the navigation bar. [21:06] It's even more annoying because it isn't just the navigation bar, there are other widgets with other xml files as well. [21:07] There's a gallery widget with its own xml file, and there probably are more widgets, but it's hard to find them. [21:07] argh! :( [21:07] why did they do that? :/ [21:14] Apparently they improved it in later versions. [21:15] I see. [21:17] So I think it would be necessary to do some custom stuff, maybe Heritrix-based. The downside of that is that everyone who helps downloading has to install and run Heritrix, instead of a simple bash script. [21:19] Here's another, the blog widget: http://web.mac.com/trumpetcall/TCCM_Blog/Blog/Blog.html doesn't have the blog content on the page, you'd have to look in http://web.mac.com/trumpetcall/TCCM_Blog/Blog/blog-main.xml for that. [21:33] argh. [21:33] yeah, I see that. *sigh* [21:50] /part
