08:09 🔗 turnkit Woke up thinking about CDROM data and DVD video automated cataloging and indexing...
08:09 🔗 turnkit Someone comment for me?
08:10 🔗 turnkit Apple iPhone owes it's existence to cddb, the specification that allowed music CD's and track names to be automatically identified. Without cddb, there'd be no automated music ripping. Without ripping, no sharing, no personal collections -- it was just too darn time consuming to expect consumers to type in every single track name of every CD they owned. Without collections, no iPods.
08:10 🔗 turnkit Without iPods, no iPhones, no current style smart phones.
08:10 🔗 turnkit What have we lost because there is no movie (DVD) identification indexing standard? It's a lot less critical with DVD's but I'd still argue we've lost a lot.
08:11 🔗 turnkit I've been wanting to do a dvddb or DVDinfo metadata ripper app for a couple years.
08:11 🔗 turnkit akin to cddb and the BDInfo app
08:11 🔗 turnkit but more focused on useful human information about the discs.
