[01:52] IA does re-generate the derived files intermittently, when they get around to it. [01:53] But the advantage of storing them, rather than generating them on-demand, is that if an encoder becomes temporarily or permanently unavailable -- they still have the previous results. [01:53] vs on-demand meaning that anytime the encoder isn't available, suddenly *all* the items aren't available in that format. [01:54] Which is mostly harmless -- unless all the other formats (including the ones the originals are in) have become sufficiently obscure that no-one remembers how to decode them. [01:55] But with storing the derived files, as long as *one* of the formats is still understood, the item can still be read, no matter how accessible or inaccessible any encoders are. [01:56] I am *certain* that if/when IA does get short of space, derived files in less-common formats will be first on the chopping block. [01:57] But they aren't, AFAIK, short of space right now.
