WhoWhatWhen
***phe has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving) [01:41]
.................................................................................................. (idle for 8h9mn)
phe has joined #jsmess [09:50]
.......................................................................................................... (idle for 8h45mn)
DFJustinr. belmont is a bit salty that we're not using mame's mac [18:35]
....... (idle for 34mn)
SketchCowSomewhere I can see, or what
Or do I even want to see
[19:09]
DFJustinshout box at http://forums.bannister.org/ [19:11]
SketchCowIt is resoundingly unhealthy to think of using multiple emulators as betrayal, but Belmont keeps it light
You were clear why
Ideally, MAME does it faster and better across time
Also, why do none of these people talk to me; it's silly
[19:13]
DFJustinbelmont has a thing about irc [19:16]
SketchCowBelmont has 9 ways to contact me
They all do.
I get that Al doesn't talk to me but I'm not hard to reach
[19:18]
DFJustin"-sl5 echoii" or "-sl5 echoiiplus" should be the magic for speech synth support [19:20]
SketchCowWhat's an example of an item using speech synth [19:24]
I got it working
But of course the one he mentions is a second floppy
Which we can't do
because
[19:30]
On the other hand, a random set of machines are going to talk now [19:37]
....................... (idle for 1h51mn)
db48xyou can add extra arguments in the json file
extra_args: ["-sl5", "echoii"]
[21:28]
DFJustin: you could point out that we can have both mame-macplus and pce-macplus emulators on IA, using PCE where perfect accuracy isn't actually needed
and MAME where it is
[21:37]
..... (idle for 22mn)
baiyeah, ultimately this is just about what we can use to deliver the most access as easily as possible, if there are cases where mame works better no reason for us not to do that too [21:59]
db48xI can understand the pain of creating a perfect implementation that nobody uses
(for ridiculous reasons like the perfect implementation of the slow speed of an ancient floppy drive ;)
[22:05]
baiyeah there's a limit to how much realism people actually want :P
that's what I like about this stuff, in some ways you can configure these old systems to be their peak versions, better than what you had in the day
[22:06]
Vito`if mame supported comprehensive snapshotting that might help [22:13]
db48xVito`: it absolutely would
it would be awesome for other things as well
[22:25]
I bet it would be possible to automatically launch a program in the mac, if we had a boot disk with applescript [22:34]
phebuild/compile/link/debug PCE was a pleasure, mame build machinery is a pain, I'm not a fan of mammoth project [22:43]
baimame is definitely more powerful overall yeah, but that power and flexibility comes at a cost, complexity [22:45]
phemame is best at arcade, really great for that [22:58]
DFJustinmame supports snapshotting [23:06]
Vito`DFJustin: but not for every system [23:15]
