01:05 🔗 SketchCow Back from insanity
01:05 🔗 SketchCow OK, going to start figuring out the deal-i-o with the arcade games
01:06 🔗 SketchCow Which are blocked by The Law and which I gave up on because fuck it it crashed
01:11 🔗 godane has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 268 seconds)
01:19 🔗 SketchCow So, there are 407 arcade items that are dark.
01:43 🔗 DFJustin the error occurs with -romident so it's almost certainly to do with the chd code
02:01 🔗 SketchCow OK, going through the 407 items now
02:02 🔗 SketchCow The VAST Majority are rightsholders, of course.

06:43 🔗 SketchCow hahahaha
06:44 🔗 SketchCow This won't case insanity or anything.

06:57 🔗 LordNigh2 is now known as Lord_Nigh
07:26 🔗 bai :D
07:30 🔗 bai so....is archive.org intentionally throttling larger downloads to around 1 MB/s?
07:30 🔗 SketchCow So, next is for me to download all the CHDs (that's happening)
07:30 🔗 SketchCow And then shove them in in a way with a script that does maximum metadata.
07:30 🔗 SketchCow The answer is no, I'll talk to Jonah tomorrow.
07:30 🔗 bai seems I get good speeds up front, but they very quickly taper off to 1 MB/s, no matter which connection I try from, including from aws
07:37 🔗 bai anyway, cool stuff
07:43 🔗 SketchCow I just played Wipeout in a Browser
08:08 🔗 bai whew, me too....can't say I did very well, but it worked

12:28 🔗 db48x beautiful
14:37 🔗 DFJustin SketchCow: so this fixed the issue I was getting with mac in jsmame too, that may be worth looking at because mame can do a system 7 machine with colour for example
14:37 🔗 db48x glowing-computing-machine is rebuilding all the MAME systems from the mame0196 branch

15:16 🔗 datajerk has quit IRC (Client Quit)
15:28 🔗 SketchCow OK, that may break the psx thing again
15:29 🔗 SketchCow Which is fine, it's a single line and a trivial recompilation
15:29 🔗 DFJustin git cherry-pick 50c373be6f730eb3d1dc5efa20952fbc208a1cc2
15:29 🔗 SketchCow This PSX thing is going to be, wait for it... a very soft opening. :)
15:29 🔗 datajerk has joined #jsmess
15:30 🔗 DFJustin there are some nice hitmen demos on psx for the demoscene collection
15:30 🔗 SketchCow I see no point in getting Vice/etc aware
15:30 🔗 SketchCow Oh, yeah, I'm sure
15:30 🔗 SketchCow I just think I'd rather word slowly spread initially
15:30 🔗 SketchCow I'm happy to revisit the Mac stuff too
15:30 🔗 SketchCow And, well, we're sort of revisiting everything
15:53 🔗 SketchCow Not surprisingly, the PSX CHD downloads are taking a while.
15:54 🔗 datajerk has quit IRC (ZNC 1.6.6 - http://znc.in)
15:54 🔗 datajerk has joined #jsmess
15:59 🔗 DFJustin wasn't jvilk working on a thing to do range accesses instead of downloading entire files, that would be ideal
16:00 🔗 DFJustin chd is designed for random access
17:47 🔗 SketchCow We'll find out
17:47 🔗 SketchCow In the meantime
17:48 🔗 SketchCow My friend told me about a service where people play PSX games at Sony
17:48 🔗 SketchCow So we'll see how this all goes
17:48 🔗 SketchCow 710gb of PSX CHDs
17:49 🔗 SketchCow Are there information lists somewhere matching these items to CHDs? Like metadata?
17:49 🔗 DFJustin https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mamedev/mame/master/hash/psx.xml
17:52 🔗 SketchCow Great
17:52 🔗 SketchCow I'm now putting all the multi-CHD items aside (for now)
17:52 🔗 SketchCow That leaves an anaemic, sad 2,119
18:36 🔗 SketchCow https://archive.org/details/psxgames
18:36 🔗 SketchCow Uh, it's begun
19:10 🔗 datajerk has quit IRC (ZNC 1.6.6 - http://znc.in)

19:11 🔗 datajerk has quit IRC (Client Quit)
19:15 🔗 Vito` speaking of revisiting things
19:16 🔗 Vito` Lord_Nigh: you had mentioned things like the Canon Cat disk drive not being fully supported. would shipping a Cat disk drive to someone help? or a whole Cat?
19:20 🔗 datajerk has joined #jsmess
19:52 🔗 SketchCow My biggest issues now are getting the cover art from Mobygames into the items on the archive.
19:52 🔗 SketchCow So, uh, not that big a problem. I suspect by midnight tonight (considering I have to go drop a buddy off at the airport), we'll have a terrifyingly complete and working colection with scads of metadata.
20:00 🔗 SketchCow 323 of the 2,700 listed PSX programs have "multi" discs
20:00 🔗 SketchCow Although only a handful are actually multiple CDs.
20:12 🔗 DFJustin what are the rest?
20:16 🔗 SketchCow Demo plus Full
20:16 🔗 SketchCow LOT of those
20:19 🔗 DFJustin you must have them split up oddly, those should be separate
21:00 🔗 godane has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out)
21:09 🔗 godane has joined #jsmess
21:56 🔗 DFJustin not caching the chd download is kind of brutal
22:15 🔗 bai yeah. but at that size it may even be over the size which a browser will cache, I seem to remember in the past that there was some sort of upper limit to the size of files that browsers would cache, something like 50mb, but I dunno if that's just a relic from the past or not
22:16 🔗 bai yeah in ff looks like 5mb for in-memory cache, 50mb for files
22:17 🔗 bai for on-disk, I mean
22:17 🔗 bai browser.cache.disk.max_entry_size / browser.cache.memory.max_entry_size
22:20 🔗 bai oh, and even more fun: "Note that we have a "hard" limit of never storing anything bigger than 1/8th of the total cache size, which is 1 GB max, so the effective limit is 125 MB, not matter what you set the pref to."
