JensRexTriple display master race. [01:35]

<jrwr> its required to have youtube-dl in the pipeline's folder right?
I just tried putting a precompiled youtube-dl in the pipeline folder. Still fails with the usual message.
I don't know where it expects to find it, if not in the same dir.
[01:43]

AHA!

........ (idle for 35mn)
Fucking hell. Putting youtube-dl somewhere wpull expects to find it, makes it sort of work when invoking wpull manually, but it fails when run via the pipeline. [02:38]
Reluctantly putting it in /usr/local/bin [02:44]
...................... (idle for 1h46mn)
Fucks sake. Even in /usr/local/bin the pipeline doesn't find it. [04:30]
..................................... (idle for 3h0mn)
AoedeJensRex: I symlinked youtube-dl into newsgrabber directory and it works [07:30]

KazJensRex: get some proper sized monitors
5760x1080 is the way to go
[11:06]
JAAAnd a decent OS please. ;-) [11:07]

Kazpfft, windows 10 is a dream, when it works

[11:25]
JAA"when"
And there are also those privacy issues.
[11:27]
KazMS is the least of my concerns wrt privacy
Facebook/Google sure, but MS i couldn't care less
[11:29]
JAAI never said there aren't more important privacy issues. Mozilla isn't exactly innocent in that respect either. But I still wouldn't ever install something on my computer where I already know in advance that it won't respect my privacy. [11:32]
IglooThe warriorlists is failing? Guessing that's important xD [11:35]
KazI guess at the end of the day you've got to make that judgement of productivity vs privacy [11:41]
JAAI don't see how I'd be more productive on Windows than I am on Debian, but I guess that depends on what you do with your computer. [11:44]
......... (idle for 44mn)
KazManage windows servers /shrug
that's my use case anyway
[12:28]
JAAAh yeah, then I guess it's easier to do that from a Windows system. [12:30]
.............. (idle for 1h5mn)
jrwrBrowsers are complex pieces of code, no one likes working on them. this isn't the netscape days [13:35]
HCross2We still need to change the mandatory code version do people get the new CDN link [13:40]
arkiver: could we become the default project ATM or is there something else running? [13:50]
jrwrit doesn't download youtube-dl on the warriors
as a prepare, last I checked
hows the CDN doing HCross
[13:54]

JensRex<Kaz> MS is the least of my concerns wrt privacy <-- said while logged into Chrome :D
Main monitor is 1920*1200, side monitor is my LCD I bought in 2002 that just never dies. Other side monitor was free.
I symlinked youtube-dl now, but I'm not sure how that's supposed to help things. Running strace on the pipeline now, waiting for a *-video job.
[15:36]
....... (idle for 32mn)
HCross2jrwr: we can probably add a YouTube DL check to the pipeline, and 80% cache hit [16:10]
KazJensRex: exactly, google/fb have everything they want on me
MS can't do any worse
[16:13]
JensRexHoly shit. Symlinked youtube-dl seems to work, for some reason.
Throws a myriad of warnings like this: https://bpaste.net/show/38176c5f9302

[16:27]
.... (idle for 16mn)
JAAYeah, I saw tons of those messages before (the 402 ones; not related to newsgrabber). Still not sure why. [16:43]
JensRexVisiting the link manually seems to work. [16:44]
JAAYep
Perhaps they do some UA detection or so.
[16:44]
JensRexMaybe it's because my DO node is in Germany, and Youtube and Germany are in an abusive relationship.
GEMA blocks things all the time.
[16:44]
JAAI've seen the same from Canadian, Swiss, and French IPs.
Can't reproduce it with that URL right now though.
Maybe referrer-dependent?
[16:45]
JensRexRelated: Someone with git access should maybe write youtube-dl setup instructions.
curl -L https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -o /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
chown root:root /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
ln -s /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl youtube-dl (in pipeline dir)
Add sudo as required.
[16:50]
JAAThat smells awfully like a PATH issue. [16:56]
JensRexIt certainly smells. [17:04]
.... (idle for 19mn)
jrwrwell it should just be a library include for wpull since its in pip [17:23]
JAAI think wpull calls the executable, no? [17:23]
jrwrit does
https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/blob/master/README.md#embedding-youtube-dl
[17:24]
JensRexInstalling youtube-dl from pip doesn't work.
Or it didn't, for me.
[17:25]
jrwrwpull is not using it correctly
it should be using the youtube-dl internal API
its not
[17:25]
JAAAh, you mean that. Yeah, it should. [17:26]
JensRexWhy are we using this precompiled wpull even, instead of installing from pip?
News from germany re: youtube:
[17:52] <CiTay> not blocked
[17:53] <CiTay> they don't do the GEMA blocking anymore if you're referring to that
[17:27]
arkiverjrwr: HCross2: maybe i'll set it to not use youtube dl for now
until we have that fixed
[17:35]
JensRexBut now I finally goaded the pipeline into using youtube-dl :D [17:39]
