09:55 🔗 JAA Non-sequential, six-character codes of [a-zA-Z0-9], it seems.
09:55 🔗 JAA Two examples: http://x.vu/iqmMso http://x.vu/OeTmCf
09:57 🔗 JAA 2,115,148 URLs in their database according to the homepage
10:02 🔗 JAA Hmm. Since there are ~52 billion possible short codes, we probably can't save any significant amount in three days. Shall we try contacting the owner instead?
10:18 🔗 phuzion has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out)
10:55 🔗 hook54321 JAA: Enter a URL and press the "Go Xtreme" button
10:57 🔗 JAA Yeah. You can also choose your own code (without paying).
10:59 🔗 phuzion has joined #urlteam
10:59 🔗 hook54321 It's only 3 characters
11:00 🔗 JAA Right, we could grab those.
11:00 🔗 hook54321 Actually, those do cost money.
11:01 🔗 JAA The 1-3-character long ones do, yes. But you can also pick a custom tag (of 4 or more characters) for free if you go to the "Advanced Options".

18:31 🔗 JAA FYI, I've sent a message to the X.vu people (through their contact form).

20:22 🔗 hook54321 JAA: https://gist.githubusercontent.com/anonymous/33a6037884c2197b16012dc417cd5ad6/raw/2e3f21332e95e49770e91eeb0dcd3ba37e984b80/gistfile1.txt
20:22 🔗 hook54321 Also, I think it's not caps sensitive, but I'm not sure.
20:28 🔗 JAA hook54321: The auto-generated codes are certainly case-sensitive, but it's possible that the self-assigned codes aren't.
20:29 🔗 hook54321 ah, you're right.
20:46 🔗 treyo has joined #urlteam
20:52 🔗 treyo as someone that works on a project correlated with a url shortener that is being indexed, is there a way to provide url mappings and get the project to stop being crawled manually?
20:56 🔗 JAA treyo: Absolutely. The best way would probably be an official archival via 301works.org, but if that's out of question, I'm sure we can figure out something else.
20:56 🔗 JAA Somebody2: ping ^
20:56 🔗 Jonison has quit IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
20:58 🔗 treyo Ok. The Shortener is still active, but we may be able to make something work with that. We will look into it. There are various mechanisms that may prevent us from doing that directly. Otherwise, would a Api endpoint that just dumps out all the valid mappings be useful?
20:59 🔗 treyo its for go.usa.gov, sometimes there are weird rules on us pushing data out to places, but I could script the push to that after the data is public anyway
20:59 🔗 treyo since its all 'available' anyway
21:00 🔗 treyo is this the best place to contact the team in general?
21:01 🔗 JAA I'm not sure our current scripts support something like that, but if not, it can certainly be done without too much effort.
21:01 🔗 JAA Yes, it is.
21:02 🔗 treyo ok. thanks :) I'll hopefully be able to just get a nightly/weekly archive pushed out. Long story, but gov questions when there is sustained cache misses all the time.
21:02 🔗 treyo so though valid... easier to just make it sotp
21:03 🔗 treyo and its all technically foia-able... so might as well just publish it in some easier format.
