Now the VM crashes during bootup. It gets partway through the boot process then crashes with a failed assertion. [12:43] Other VMs are fine [12:46] er, I take that back. I have 3 VMs: archivewarrior, WinXP, FreeBSD 10 ... XP boots then crashes while showing login screen, archivewarrior crashes during boot, FreeBSD seems fine [12:48] different errors though. the XP crash is apparently due to low host memory. [12:49] the warrior crash failed assertion can be seen at the end of my VBox.log here: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=afdcj0ca [12:53] Have you tried importing the OVF again? [12:55] not yet. do I need to delete the old VM from the manager first? [13:15] no, you don't have to - but you could if you want to [13:21] ok, one sec [13:28] ah i see, it creates a new VM [13:28] same result, unfortunately [13:31] i am going to try a host reboot. back in a bit [13:31] *** mjb_15 has quit IRC (Quit: Page closed) [13:43] *** mjb_15 has joined #warrior [13:44] same result after reboot. the assertion failure happens at the "Loading, please wait" stage [13:45] VirtualBox is known to be a bit buggy at times [13:45] yeah. just wondered if anyone else reported it. if you have suggestions, I can try other things, or I can revert to the older version of VirtualBox after I get some sleep [13:46] No, haven't seen anyone else have problems with 5.0.6 yet [13:46] I guess downgrading to 4.3.* could be an option [14:03] *** Start has quit IRC (Quit: Disconnected.) I saw something in the log about it being a 64-bit guest OS, and the host CPU's virtualization support not working. I went into my BIOS settings and enabled hardware virtualization & VT-x [14:29] ah :) [14:29] so it's working now? :O [14:30] I guess the newer version of VirtualBox doesn't like it if the CPU supports VT-x and the BIOS has it disabled [14:32] yeah it booted fine although I do not see the graphic image with the logo on the console. and the github.com lookup fails when it tries to self-update [14:33] oh but then it says 'waiting for a network connection', then 'already up to date' .. so i guess it retries [14:34] yeah, it retries [14:34] because VBox can be a bit slow on initializing the network [14:36] weird. the old VM still shows the graphic [14:39] oh i had set the video memory to 10 MB on the new one. i set it back to 1 MB and now the graphic displays. (opposite of what i would expect, but whatever) [14:41] the WinXP VM is not crashing either [14:54] Perfect :) [15:06] :) [15:41] *** Start has joined #warrior [15:51] *** logchfoo starts logging #warrior at Mon Oct 05 15:51:05 2015 [15:51] *** logchfoo has joined #warrior [15:51] *** chfoo0 has joined #warrior [16:29] *** Dark_Star has joined #warrior [17:05] *** Start has joined #warrior [17:31] *** Fusl has joined #warrior [17:37] *** Start has quit IRC (Quit: Disconnected.)
