redlizardJAA: A convenient side benefit of that is that the tracker could tell you when you are working on a duplicate that has since been completed.
It could respond with "yeah don't bother with that item anymore, it has been finished / cancelled"

redlizardSo the #zetatheplank project is mirroring a fair amount of external links; and as a consequence, spends a LOT of time trying to download dead links, sometimes for many hours.
Many of those are links to servers that don't exist at all anymore, that hit 5 connection errors in a row before erroring out.
As a general improvement for projects that include external links, I wonder whether it might be practical to detect the specific case of errors connecting to a server, and blacklist the whole host for further requests when that happens?
[16:27]
arkiverI think that should just be done in the lua scripts
I can add that, currently we're trying 5 times, I could also take that down to 2 tries
[16:29]
redlizardWhat I meant is not exactly to give up earlier, but rather to distinguish between per-URL errors and per-host errors.
And try at most 5 times per host for per-host errors.
[16:30]
arkiverSure can do that too
Just depends on what a project looks like, sometimes no 'external' links are downloaded or the line between 'internet' and 'external' links is not so clear
[16:30]
redlizardHm, good point. [16:35]
