04:19 🔗 wikiteam- Trying to use Wikiteam, followed instructions on Github carefully, read tutorial carefully, comes up with error, anyone know how to get it working on windows 7?: http://i.thinimg.com/img/822p.png (might vanish soon because I visited the API url and host is protective) (also tried the "wikiteam for windows" fork someone made and similar but different error: ht
04:20 🔗 wikiteam- <<cut continued>> fork someone made and similar but different error: http://i.thinimg.com/img/822p.png )
04:25 🔗 JAA So yeah, as ivan already mentioned, you need to use Python 2 for this.
04:25 🔗 wikiteam- OH thanks I was just asking again back there, do you know what version is safe? or any python 2
04:25 🔗 JAA Any should do. I'd go with the latest 2.7.x.
04:25 🔗 wikiteam- (I have no idea what I'm doing just trying to save a wiki I noticed no one else had caught
04:26 🔗 wikiteam- Thanks I'll try
04:30 🔗 wikiteam- pip install --upgrade -r requirements.txt
04:30 🔗 wikiteam- Fatal error in launcher: Unable to create process using '"c:\program files\python37\python.exe" "C:\Program Files\Python37\Scripts\pip.exe" install --upgrade -r requirements.txt'
04:30 🔗 wikiteam- I did a full uninstall of python and installed 2.7 and it looks like it's trying to run the new one still
04:34 🔗 wikiteam- Looks like Python 2.7 doesn't even have a pip.exe
04:34 🔗 JAA Yeah, I think pip wasn't included in old Python versions.
04:34 🔗 JAA But I can't help you from here since I haven't used Windows in a decade.
04:34 🔗 wikiteam- https://github.com/wikiteam/wikiteam says at the start to do "pip install --upgrade -r requirements.txt" which runs on the latest python but the rest of the program doesn't work in the latest python
04:35 🔗 JAA That command will work fine on a *nix-based machine.
04:35 🔗 JAA Our tools are generally not geared towards Windows at all.
04:36 🔗 JAA I think someone here was running the wikiteam ones on Windows, but I also remember there being some issues with NTFS.
04:39 🔗 wikiteam- yeah I can understand that for a lot of stuff linux is better, but if the goal is seriously to try archive every wiki, making it usable by more people would definitely be useful :( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems#Desktop_and_laptop_computers
04:41 🔗 JAA If someone wants to do it and it doesn't make the code unreadable due to dozens of "if windows:" statements, sure.
04:42 🔗 JAA Most Windows users would be scared to even open a terminal though.
04:43 🔗 JAA You could also mention the wiki here and let someone else grab it.
04:43 🔗 wikiteam- I was just thinking of typing something like that hah... I am worried if the host gets wind of it they might try lock it down
04:44 🔗 wikiteam- also I don't want to feel like I'm being lazy because I'm happy to help with the bandwidth lol I just can't get the damn thing started
04:49 🔗 wikiteam- hmm you said this should work fine on linux, but 2.7 doesn't have pip regardless of version right? not sure if I understand right... pip install --upgrade -r requirements.txt
04:51 🔗 JAA Yeah right, you need to install pip somehow. Most Linux installations I've seen came with both Python 2.7 and pip pre-installed though, unless you explicitly do a minimal install and exclude it.
04:51 🔗 JAA I'm sure you can install pip on Windows as well, but don't ask me how.
04:51 🔗 JAA Should be easy enough to find on the internet though.
04:52 🔗 wikiteam- can you link me something with 2.7 and pip on it? I could try run it in Oracle VirtualBox
04:52 🔗 JAA But I believe there were issues with filename collisions on NTFS due to the case insensitivity, so it's probably not a good idea to run it on there anyway.
04:52 🔗 JAA Any standard Debian or Ubuntu install should do.
04:55 🔗 wikiteam- trying this now https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox
04:55 🔗 wikiteam- i figure i'll try rip it first then I can say what it is after im sure its been got safe before the alarm bells go lol
05:24 🔗 wikiteam- trying to get unbunti to install on virtualbox is pain
05:24 🔗 wikiteam- installer crashed
05:25 🔗 wikiteam- second time freezes until eventually screen goes black, I'm hoping it's actually working
05:28 🔗 wikiteam- ok finally got a screen wtih "Live session user" on it, clicked that and it's black screen again, is it normal for linux to show 0 user feedback on loading? -.-
05:28 🔗 wikiteam- can't tell if it's just the emulator
05:41 🔗 wikiteam- hell http://i.thinimg.com/img/8236.png
05:49 🔗 wikiteam- http://i.thinimg.com/img/8238.png finally... oh wait it's back to the same screen again before the black screen ARGHHHH
05:57 🔗 wikiteam- that was using http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04.2/ubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso the GUI one.. trying http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04.2/ubuntu-18.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso now though even if it works I'm doubtful of knowing what to type to actually get things running

12:24 🔗 forsooth one thing I noticed on https://github.com/WikiTeam/wikiteam is it has no information on who to contact about announcing new rips available on twitter it doesn't seem to be being updated much - https://twitter.com/_wikiteam
12:26 🔗 forsooth Looks like whoever runs it is still active but rarely and no way to push for a tweet when new stuff gets released
13:23 🔗 JAA I didn't even know that Wikiteam had a Twitter account.
13:43 🔗 forsooth it's linked on the main page of the github :) for 5 years apparently https://github.com/WikiTeam/wikiteam/commit/c07f3b1650a93a0aa8d69ed162bf2fcc4eb88ddc
13:44 🔗 forsooth looks like this is the owner and never shared the details? heh https://github.com/emijrp
13:46 🔗 JAA That would be VoynichCr.
13:49 🔗 forsooth thanks
15:08 🔗 forsooth https://github.com/WikiTeam/wikiteam/wiki/Tutorial "If your first three numbers or your last two numbers are different, then, your XML dump is corrupt (it contains one or more unfinished `</page>` or `</revision>`). This is not common in small wikis, but large or very large wikis may fail at this due to truncated XML pages while exporting and merging. "
15:10 🔗 forsooth The third number is different from the first 2 numbers :( And it's almost 50,000 pages, what do I do? downloading it again seems like the same thing would just happen again (I had to resume twice when it had read timeouts)
15:13 🔗 Zerote has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out)
15:42 🔗 forsooth 2 missing </page> in the XML (corrupt download), I have a almost 50,000 page dump and it's came out with the 2nd and 3rd numbers mismatching on integrity check, downloading the whole thing again for hours and letting it fail again seems impractical? :( Is there anything I can do JAA or anyone aargh
15:54 🔗 JAA I have no idea. I've never actually used the tool myself. You'll probably have to wait for someone else.

23:08 🔗 forsooth RE https://github.com/WikiTeam/wikiteam/wiki/Tutorial#Checking_dump_integrity - I have the 2nd and 3rd numbers mismatching on integrity check (2 less </page> than there should be in the XML), I have a almost 50,000 page dump and downloading the whole thing again for hours and letting it fail again seems impractical? :( Is there anything I can do aaargh please
23:08 🔗 forsooth Posted yesterday but fell asleep and forgot to log back on here if anyone was around and saw if anyone replied meanwhile :(
23:09 🔗 JAA forsooth: Nope, no reply to that so far.
23:10 🔗 forsooth The cause of the corruption is probably that it got interrupted twice by having 2 request timeouts during the whole thing (which seem to be set for less than 10 seconds, seems bad when one moment of lag can damage a whole many hours long dump)
23:10 🔗 forsooth used resume twice to carry on after that
