so, this isn't exactly the same as the floppy emulator folks were asking for earlier, but it's interesting in its own right: http://goughlui.com/?p=3126 & http://goughlui.com/?p=3246 |

that blog also has a fascinating series on the kryoflux: from what it is/why you would want it, all the way through trying it on disks and solving the issues that happen when trying to dump less-than-perfect condition disks |
01:46

|

that actually sounds exactly like what Coderjoe wanted |

and, because it is an embedded system, it can't just use an off-the-shelf drive. it has to use one set to DS0 and with a different ready/diskchange signaling |

Coderjoe: I like floppies... I saved some data on some Verbatim 3.5 inch sized floppy disks in 1998, I put them into my floppy drive a few days ago and they could be read without issues |

wonder if tumblr is going to start using flickr storage |
14:12
๐
|
Cameron_D |
I noticed that they recently switched from s3 to edgecast for images |
14:13
๐
|
Cameron_D |
and according to edgecast's front page they serve yahoo |
14:15
๐
|
Smiley |
Cameron_D: heh |
14:15
๐
|
Smiley |
1. get flickr users paying for storage |
14:15
๐
|
Smiley |
2. move tumblr images onto the same storage as flickr users |
14:16
๐
|
Smiley |
3. charge tumblr users for the amount of image space/storage they need |
14:16

Is Flickr being owned by Yahoo? |
14:16
๐
|
norbert79 |
Just asking |
14:16
๐
|
Smiley |
It is already owned by Yahoo yes. |
14:17
๐
|
norbert79 |
Well, if they wish to destroy Flickr, any of the listed options will do fine |
14:18
๐
|
Smiley |
norbert79: well 1. is kind of happening already |
14:18
๐
|
Smiley |
they increased the free boundry to 1Tb, which, yes, is nice |
14:18
๐
|
Smiley |
They are changing pro accounts into a $49/yr for no ads (and nothing else) and then $500 for more storage, maybe another Tb, I forget. |
14:19
๐
|
norbert79 |
yes, I read that, which can be still an acceptable step, but the rest will be make tumblr go down for sure |
14:19

Indeed. |

I remember reading an article of the former (?) CEO of Yahoo; she big faced told workers to work in the office, no home office... She should have told everyone else too, that she has a company car and she lives close to the office... Also she proudly returned to work after 2 weeks after the birth of her son (?)... Someone is career oriented |

it looks like theblaze.com site is getting backed up more now |

godane, that is your opinion. I like to think the IA has a good idea on how often a site needs to be backed up since it is one of their primary functions. |

The number of grabs has no discernible correlation to how deep each grab is. |
23:58
๐
|
godane |
but at least the front page is being grabed more often |
23:58

also i did do a deep grab back in 2012-09-03 |
