[00:06] so i got commandn from 2007 downloaded [00:06] damnit [00:07] my ereader froze [00:07] * joepie91 hard resets [00:31] Sorry ivan I will be using transmission. I haven't used windows in over a decade [00:32] i have heard that utorrent works acceptably in wine [00:32] so looks like episode 119 of commandn is over 300mb [00:32] I use transmission [00:32] haven't tried it, though [00:32] it supports uTP just fine [00:33] this is above the norm [00:34] Transmission has a tendency of trashing my disk :( [00:35] * joepie91 normally always uses Tixati, <3 it [00:38] still wondering how in the hell they got Linux with QT to run on an ereader [00:38] but okay [00:43] Digital Ocean just gave me more account credit to win me back after the shit service [01:05] omf_: never quite understood that [01:06] "ah, so you didn't like our service? here you go, more credit to use our service that you did not want in the first place!" [01:11] "tastes like catfood? thanks for the feedback, here's some coupons!" [01:12] haha, yup [01:12] also [01:13] turns out the Action sells printer cables again [01:13] mini USB [01:13] \o/ [01:13] 1 euro per cable yay! [01:13] joepie91: I have a cheap ereader that ran linux with a QT UI from the factory. and how is it different from running android? [01:14] Coderjoe: an OYO by any chance? (or another name, produced/supplied by Medion at least) [01:14] kobo [01:15] well, idk, I just never expected a standard QT UI to play nice with an e-ink screen [01:15] ah [01:15] also [01:15] i'm sure it is a custom setup that periodically issues a blank command to the screen [01:15] the batteyr on this thing lasts _forever_ [01:15] battery * [01:16] the screen on mine is held in a color frame buffer [01:16] (others have hacked it and accessed the screen and such) [01:16] there's been quite a bit of hacking for this as well [01:16] sadly, I never did get around to hacking it to use for the project I wanted it for [01:17] http://wiki.techinc.nl/index.php/OYO_Hacking [01:17] (eink display with wifi that wasn't so expensive that I was worried about it walking off) [01:17] and primarily [01:17] http://www.fwma.de/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.OYO?color=orange [01:17] heh [01:17] this one was like 100 euro when I got it [01:18] eink + wifi also [01:18] and a browser [01:18] a proper, HTML5 and CSS3 capable, webkit-based browser [01:18] with JS support [01:18] the kobo also has a browser [01:18] I wanted the display for my project to be without widgets [01:19] i don't remember much about the browser in the kobo, however [01:20] :P [01:20] anyway [01:20] time to sleep [01:20] if you ever want to download books from the kobo [01:20] http://books.cryto.net/ :D [01:20] anyway, goodnight [01:21] i haven't bought any [01:25] I wonder why most virtual machine providers are removing Windows 9x support [01:29] what do you mean by support? guest-side drivers? [01:30] it could be that they don't see any reason to continue to put money into maintaining the drivers, as they don't think anybody is using them [01:31] well I mean VirtualBox barely supports Windows 98 in general and VMware are dropping official support, it's just a question of how we can run legacy W9x applications without resorting to hardware which will probably be gone in a few more years [01:32] what about qemu? [01:33] qemu? [01:35] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QEMU [01:38] well, looks like I'm going to have to try this [01:39] on linux, there is even qemu-kvm, which does some of the vm management in the kernel (iirc) [01:43] I really need to learn Linux [01:47] http://learncodethehardway.org/cli/book/cli-crash-course.html [01:49] "learncodethehardway" [01:49] not very encouraging [01:50] and I'm OK with the Windows command line just not the Linux one :P [01:52] The first thing I've learned: ls = dir [01:56] some linux distros set up an alias for you, so you can type dir and it works [01:57] that's nice of them :P [01:58] Oh, yes. Just tried it in Ubuntu. But ls is colorful and dir is not :p [01:59] you can alias it if you really like typing dir [02:00] :D [02:00] LiSting files makes more sense semantically [02:01] ls = 2 keys, dir = 3 keys. You save time with ls! :) [02:02] alias l='ls -lart' [02:02] * BlueMax makes a note to tie up underscor and beat some sense into him [02:02] blargh. i hate read errors [02:02] * underscor makes a note to never allow BlueMax to meet SketchCow [02:02] >:D [02:03] * BlueMax makes a note to cry in the corner [02:03] * underscor makes a note to harass BlueMax to replenish the tissues when he's done [02:05] yeah, since you've been using em all :( [02:33] joepie91: I've also thought of asking everyone in the neighborhood for all their old CDs/floppies/etc [02:35] if you're willing to invest some money in it, I'm pretty sure the post office offers a service to mail a postcard to every house in an area [02:41] yup [02:41] it's about 1/4 the price of normal stamps, I think [03:04] there's also Craigslist, putting up the flyers yourself, telling all your flea-market/garage sale/etc going friends/family/neighbors what you're interested in, and asking them to buy it for you if they see it [03:18] underscor what is your cats name? [03:18] S[h]O[r]T: Thelma :3 [03:18] Was her shelter name. [03:18] We think she was a mother who was seperated from her kittens almost near birth, based on her behaviour [04:42] hi guys, here's a crappy shell script to extract a large amount of info from a DOS / Windows floppy image: http://paste.archivingyoursh.it/cekohobelo.bash if it's actually useful to anyone, that would be great to know [04:42] it requires 7zip and mtools to be installed [06:29] http://imgur.com/rZxEbJ5 [06:30] Coderjoe, you once again have my attention :) [06:34] also http://imgur.com/127dhA8 [06:35] http://imgur.com/gallery/yhPH1jE [06:35] I still need to figure out what to do about the CD with read errors. like try and locate my disc doctor or something [06:35] I got a stiffy now [06:36] maybe it needs to be re-surfaced [06:36] that's pretty much what the disc doctor does [06:39] oh man I remember having a turbolinux disc a long time ago [06:40] here's another fun one: http://imgur.com/80piqwv [06:42] yum [06:42] non-expiring! [06:48] http://imgur.com/a/qHXnJ#0 [06:49] only one of my CDs is missing, and that's the one with the read errors [07:01] haha [07:01] this AOL CD has in ISO volume label of PENGUIN [07:13] heh [07:18] grr [07:19] something happened to my scanner drivers, it seems [07:19] all was fine, but now suddenly i get a missing dll error when I try to use it [08:17] Coderjoe, what brand? [08:17] is this on Windows? [08:18] yeah. I don't know why, but it suddenly couldn't find the dll, even though it wouldn't have moved. I found the dll right were I was expecting it, so I just added the directory to my cmd.exe's path for now [08:21] I remember for Epsons that if the temp files were not cleaned properly the scanning drivers and software would not load correctly [08:22] canon [08:22] no idea then [08:23] adding the c:\windows\twain_32\CNQL20 directory to the path seems to have fixed it for now [08:25] wow. this online service's CD has ISO, Joliet, HFS, AND rockridge [08:25] first one I have seen with RR [08:25] at least I think it is an online service [08:35] i'm doing at mirror of gazellegames.net forums [09:20] http://imgur.com/a/nFuEB#0 [09:21] fuck yeah AOL [09:22] if you count the pictures, you will only see 13 AOL CDs. turns out I had 3 identical copies of one of the CDs [09:24] http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/27/aol-discs-90s/ [10:18] ersi: Sorry about the connection issues. My VPS provider must have been having issues [10:25] you guys are getting 500mb+ of images from gazellegames.net forums [10:27] also i got about ~4280 posts forum the gazellegames.net forums [10:28] you just do a seq 1 4300 to this url http://gazellegames.net/forums.php?action=viewthread&threadid=$i [10:28] now that i think about it since the damn thing didn't mirror it [10:28] no pages are grabed [10:29] this is my code: wget -i index.txt --mirror --load-cookies=cookies.txt --warc-file=gazellegames.net-forums-$(date +%Y%m%d) --warc-cdx --accept-regex='(image.php|page=|forumid=)' --reject-regex='(#|reports.php)' -o wget.log [10:30] it didn't grab anything but what was in the index file [11:08] uploaded: https://archive.org/details/gazellegames.net-forums-images-20130602 [11:11] chazchaz: Just thought I'd tell you, if it wasn't noticable. No worries [11:16] there is over 400 people in underground-gamer chat [11:30] so i'm going to be reuploading a item [11:30] its the first 10000 images ids of g4tv [11:31] i have to reupload it cause i uploaded tar.gz instead of zip or tar [11:31] this will also most likely be a different item id [11:33] since the online upload on archive.org either eat my cpu or get just get i/o error message on the page now [11:35] Coderjoe: Sometimes it's worth trying tricky discs on a variety of CD, DVD and Blu-Ray drives - some read challenging discs better than others. [11:36] I had a load of CD-Rs that I had to recover virtually sector-by-sector, some drives reading some parts of the disc fine, others not. [11:36] Something like Isobuster is pretty good for jigsawing all the pieces together - can just build up a good image through multiple reads on several drives. [11:50] i may just reupload all my image dumps of g4tv [11:50] only cause most of them are tar.gz [11:51] when they need to be tar or zip to be browsable [13:51] antomatic: you'll want to have a look at ddrescue [13:52] it can combine multiple reads (either from multiple copies or using multiple drives) to create one completely functional ISO [13:52] even on a single drive, I've had very good results with it [13:52] cc Coderjoe [14:49] joepie91: nice! thanks. :) [14:55] reposting this from last night: [14:55] hi guys, here's a crappy shell script to extract a large amount of info from a DOS / Windows floppy image: http://paste.archivingyoursh.it/cekohobelo.bash if it's actually useful to anyone, that would be great to know [14:55] it requires 7zip and mtools to be installed [15:21] interesting update from Google on how they're treating actively exploited 0-days: http://www.darkreading.com/vulnerability/google-sets-new-aggressive-7-day-deadlin/240155757 [16:18] It's interesting how many there seems to be that got good pipes these days. Especially people interesting in hobby-archiving. [16:19] Too bad that's not needed all that much [17:50] http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005SZ8NE2/ $200 5K4000 [19:59] * undersco2 sighs happily [20:00] 6 more days until I'm back in SF, fulltime at the archive [20:00] lucky bast :D [20:27] tumblr.com is serving gzip responses to wget :/ [20:59] so, if you're in London, and would like to go to a games conference around the time of E3, this could be for you: http://www.polygon.com/2013/6/2/4388672/alternative-e3-event-etoo-taking-place-in-london-sony-to-sponsor
