04:46 🔗 phillipsj godane: if it is USB3, that may be why. The standard is badly designed and can fry your computer.
04:47 🔗 godane so seagate usb external hard drives can fry computers?
04:49 🔗 ranma is the archive bot thingie able to get around region blocks?
04:49 🔗 ranma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy6vHcgeJ3c
04:50 🔗 JesseW better to grab it locally if you can
04:50 🔗 ranma i can't :(
04:52 🔗 JesseW generally region blocks like that effectivley block the whole word, they are just phrased as "region" for hysterical raseins

07:30 🔗 phillipsj godane, no, mis-wired USB3 cables can.
07:35 🔗 phillipsj Though I supposed I mis-wired hard-drive could too.
07:40 🔗 murk USB3 is well into the region where bad cables could result in a fire.
07:41 🔗 Stiletto has joined #archiveteam-bs
07:46 🔗 phillipsj Just becuase everybody violates the USB2 standard does not imply you should incorporate those bad practices in the USB3 standard :P
07:48 🔗 murk I'm holding out for all the bad-idea devices to appear, it seems like the high power USB chips are too expensive for that at the moment. it's well within reason that someone will literally make a USB powered toaster.
08:03 🔗 phillipsj I bought a USB30 USB key (with Type A connector). I was flabberghastered when the salesperson told me USB 3 supports 96 watts. That 6Pin connector for video cards only supports 75 Watts, I have heard (two wires are sense, not power wires).
08:04 🔗 murk the PCI slot itself supplies 75 watts, the 6 pin plugs are ~300W depending on the type.
08:04 🔗 murk different voltage than USB which helps a lot, USB3 goes up to 20v to save on cable thickness and losses.
08:05 🔗 murk if it were still 5v, 100W would be 20A which is getting up to garden host thickness conductors.
08:09 🔗 phillipsj not quite that bad, though you may want some over-kill due to the low voltage. (at 120V, 12AWG is good enough for 20A; a 2-3V drop is no problem.).
08:11 🔗 murk hyperbole, but still 2-3v drop on 5v USB would be pretty catastrophic

22:21 🔗 xmc possibly
22:21 🔗 xmc why would you --spider, that throws away the data
22:21 🔗 hook54321 But it would save it on the internet archive. also, the command is kinda broken, but you get the point.
22:22 🔗 hook54321 it didn't paste correctly

23:03 🔗 justsome hmmm... looks like jesse isn't here
23:04 🔗 xmc he's usually in and out
23:05 🔗 justsome anyway... does anyone know how to browse FTP WARCs offline?
23:06 🔗 justsome i tried webarchiveplayer and it doesn't seem to support them
23:07 🔗 justsome and it looks like they can't be used online either, since archive.org doesnt seem to support them
23:08 🔗 justsome btw @jesse i DO read the logs lol and if you know the answer to this please leave me a message in the logs, please also keep me updated on the status of those failed files thanks

23:21 🔗 JesseW justsome: yep, I read the logs too
23:21 🔗 JesseW I'm not sure what the best way to view FTP warcs is
23:21 🔗 JesseW WARC is a pretty simple (and plain text) format, so you could just view them in a text editor
23:22 🔗 JesseW also see http://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=WARC (although that page is not as useful as it could ideally be

23:23 🔗 JesseW hook54321: unless autreat.org has changed recently, we did grab it already
23:24 🔗 hook54321 I know
23:24 🔗 JesseW good
23:24 🔗 justsome what's happened to the failed files?
23:25 🔗 justsome *happening
23:25 🔗 JesseW justsome: the majority of them failed because the names had spaces in them, making the list in the wpull.log insufficient for retrying them
23:25 🔗 justsome yes i know that from the logs, but is there any plan to get them eventually?
23:26 🔗 justsome also, what about the ones that failed for other reasons?
23:26 🔗 justsome (if there were any - i think i spotted some tho)
23:27 🔗 JesseW Hm -- I grabbed a list of the files before my aborted effort; maybe I can extract a list of valid names from that.
23:27 🔗 JesseW I'm not aware of any other effort to grab the failed ones, yet, no.
23:27 🔗 justsome ok
23:28 🔗 JesseW and you may have seen in the logs that HCross mentioned the job failing at the end for them, too
23:28 🔗 JesseW so -- we've got a lot, but there's still some more to do to nail it shut
23:41 🔗 justsome the logs say it failed, yes, but did it miss any files because of that?
