03:21 🔗 Matt_Lock Can somebody give me tips on how to extract a specific file from a Megawarc? I couldn't install InternetArchive's warc python library, and Warcat's extract function returned "PermissionError: [Errno 13] Permission denied" some time into the extraction. Note that I'm running windows 10.

03:34 🔗 xmc sets mode: +o SketchCow
03:43 🔗 Frogging Matt_Lock: I'd use warcat, just check your permissions...
03:44 🔗 Frogging check the permissions of the WARC and where you're extracting it to
03:46 🔗 Frogging or maybe things are not so straightforward on windows
03:47 🔗 Matt_Lock Not sure what you mean about permissions. I was extracting the folders (the entire megawarc, not sure how to do only 1 file, unfortunately), and it was running and extracting for an hour or so before the error came up.
03:48 🔗 Start_ is now known as Start
03:53 🔗 Frogging the access controls on the folder, whether you're allowed to write to it. whether there's already stuff in there that you're not allowed to overwrite
03:53 🔗 Frogging what I'm getting at anyway is a "permission denied" error sounds fixable
03:53 🔗 Frogging Maybe the disk is full
03:54 🔗 Matt_Lock Actually, that seems plausible
03:54 🔗 Frogging though I'd think that'd give you a ENOSPC
03:54 🔗 Matt_Lock Nope, supposedly ~68 gigs left
03:55 🔗 Frogging it's just the fact that it happened in the middle of the extraction. if it was able to begin then you're allowed to read the WARC and write to at least part of the destination
03:55 🔗 Matt_Lock I was able to begin. There's a lot of files that were extracted before the error came up
03:56 🔗 Frogging yeah, that's weird. Was there *anything* in the folder already before you started extracting?
03:56 🔗 Matt_Lock Just the megawarc itself
04:00 🔗 JesseW interesting: https://freedom-to-tinker.com/2016/09/15/bitcoins-history-deserves-to-be-better-preserved/
04:03 🔗 Frogging huh. apparently python on Windows can give you "permission denied" for any number of reasons.
04:04 🔗 Frogging Matt_Lock: are you using python 2 or 3?
04:04 🔗 Matt_Lock python 3
04:04 🔗 Frogging k
04:04 🔗 Matt_Lock 3.4 32 bit
04:05 🔗 Matt_Lock currently installing 3.6 64 bit (wasn't as of time of error, only started now)
04:05 🔗 Frogging I don't have any more suggestions, try that and other troubleshooting steps you can think of and then maybe try another tool
04:06 🔗 Matt_Lock Doing. That's why I'm installing 64 bit, 32 gave a memory error when ising warc.load(filename) in warcat (warc = warcat.model.WARC() )
04:06 🔗 Frogging hm
04:07 🔗 Matt_Lock Thanks for the help
04:07 🔗 Matt_Lock googling implied error was from large file size
04:07 🔗 Frogging np, good luck
