[17:32] <godane> also we could not have all cds but we have all dvds or something
[17:33] <SketchCow> We have everything
[17:33] <godane> ok then
[17:33] <powerKitt> What're we talking about?
[17:33] <godane> pc gamer cds
[17:34] <powerKitt> Oh, neat.

[17:46] <powerKitt> http://www.archiveteam.org/index.php?title=Talk:4chan#Found_another_archive._Dedicated_to_.2Fb.2F._.28NSFW_warning.29 wrote this on the wiki before I remembered that it's not read that often...
[17:47] <godane> dvd-rom iso of pc-gamer missing based on the collection: 172, 173, 175-177, 181, 183-188, 190-192, 198, 199, 201, 205, 210, 211, 214
[17:48] <godane> this is based on this collection: https://archive.org/details/pcgamer-cdroms
[17:48] <joepie91> potentially of interest to people here: there's a little theme park in NL called "De Waarbeek" that essentially operates as a "living museum" for funfair/themepark rides, much like IA operates as a "living archive"
[17:48] <godane> in less something is not indexing
[17:49] <joepie91> operating what is apparently the oldest still operational steel rollercoaster in the world (using skid brakes and railway-type wheels with a side-rail to keep the cart on the track!), and a bunch of other old rides that are now mostly gone, but that they keep up and operate

[18:11] <Smiley> more than 55tb?
[18:11] <Smiley> I think ArchiveTeam is doing more data than StackExchange :O
[18:11] <HCross2> 200tb easily
[18:15] <xmc> gitorious seems to be serving about 60T outbound monthly
[18:15] <xmc> dang
[18:15] <xmc> wait, no, that's ridiculous
[18:15] <yipdw> for a while, it was a gitlab import feature
[18:15] <xmc> that's filesystem bandwidth
[18:15] <xmc> it's serving about 2T outbound every month

[19:41] <phuzion> hey SketchCow, do you have any recommendations for recovering data from CD-R's that aren't really behaving? I've got a CD-R that's quite old and I'm trying to recover a file from it, but Windows Explorer isn't really doing much.
[19:44] <powerKitt> phuzion: Try using imgburn to make an ISO, and then mount that.
[19:44] <SketchCow> You definitely need to have something doing re-reads over and over

[22:34] <Lord_Nigh> phuzion: old plextor drive (ask balrog what models), and ddrescue
[22:34] <Lord_Nigh> plextor drives, before lite-on acquired them and gutted the division and used the name alone for their own "high end" crappy drives
[22:35] <phuzion> Ah, I didn't even think of ddrescue. Good thinking guys. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
[22:35] <Lord_Nigh> are well known to be one of the most error-tolerant drives
[22:35] <Lord_Nigh> i've recovered data from cds with holes in the media
[22:35] <Lord_Nigh> with one
[22:35] <phuzion> jesus christ
[22:35] <xmc> jeepers
[22:35] <xmc> well, reed-solomon
[22:35] <Lord_Nigh> (they were small holes; i've recovered some data from cds with larger holes too)
[22:36] <Lord_Nigh> but not everything
[22:36] <Lord_Nigh> also extremely tolerant of scratches
[22:37] <Lord_Nigh> most plextor drives are PATA, there's only one model from right before lite-on gutted them that is sata
[22:37] <Lord_Nigh> iirc
[22:37] <Lord_Nigh> they're also one of the only drives which can read xbox and gamecube dvds, since those use nonstandard sector formats
[22:38] <Lord_Nigh> since they have a debug command which can dump the raw scrambled sector data that was last read out
[22:38] <Lord_Nigh> and can be decoded by softwae
[22:38] <Lord_Nigh> there are iirc 2 other drive manufacturers with similar debug commands which can read those
[22:39] <Lord_Nigh> but i don't know the names/models offhand
[22:41] <Lord_Nigh> i believe the 'good drives' are plextor px708,71x,72x,73x,74x,75x,76x series
[22:41] <Lord_Nigh> and the px5xx series as well
[22:41] <Lord_Nigh> i think
[22:43] <Lord_Nigh> note the px755 and px760 later firmware may have locked out the debug commands
