Xibalba: so the disk space needed depends on the project you run - when running scripts manually, you will need to set up individual project scripts, and can't use the "archiveteam's choice" thing to switch automatically |
02:42
🔗
|
joepie91 |
Xibalba: the local copy is deleted after uploading it to the collection server, so generally you should assume that you need (average item size * number of threads) in disk space, plus some spare |
02:42
🔗
|
joepie91 |
so let's say double that |
02:42
🔗
|
joepie91 |
the average item size can vary wildly by project - for simple sites it'll often be something like 1MB per item or so, for stuff like video hosts it can easily be 300+MB per item |
02:43
🔗
|
joepie91 |
you'll usually only run a few threads; the default in the warrior is 2, I think |
02:43
🔗
|
joepie91 |
tl;dr you don't need a lot of disk space, unless you run into a particularly big item |
02:43
🔗
|
joepie91 |
and disk space is only used while the item is being downloaded and uploaded |

I am in a city with google fiber, so apparently I could go to the google store and get symmetric 1Gbps if I plugged in. |

In my opinion, if anything, relying on a proprietary software makes it less accessible, not more. And accessing IRC is really easy through the webclient. |

@Xibalba: Back in 2015 I was able to compile wget-lua for ARMv6 and run scripts directly. At least in my Raspberry Pi (Raspbian) and my Samsung phone (Android). Used a flash drive formatted as ext2 for storage. |

Nazca: there's also the concern of end-user support. if one is not technically competent enough to use a web IRC client, then they will likely also run into issues running the Warrior, and they may become a bigger drain on volunteer time than they're worth, contribution-wise |
