If you look at their forums, there's the usual talk of an exodus over the redesign, and a lot of people convinced of the "purge", despite the denial - moving because of a "purge" that doesn't happen is to the same effect as a boycott |

I'll refrain from judgment on the first, but the only website I can think of that had a more or less user-driven (as opposed to functionality-change-driven) sudden exodus is Digg - seems to me that a decline would be gradual |

From what I can tell, the biggest threat long-term (if the "purge" doesn't occur) is 3. a gradual decline, caused by the broader-scope flight to social media, and adjustments to try to counteract this by making Deviantart more like social media, that end up driving people away by making it like a mediocre social media site and getting rid of its niche |
