There's a number of security patches available (we're running 1.31.1 and the latest patch for the 1.31.x branch is 1.31.7). There's also 1.34.1, but that requires a schema update. [17:05] The current PHP version is running is too old currently to update (Breaks some crap in stock mediawiki on 1.31.7) [17:06] Oh, the box needs a dist-upgrade or something then? [17:06] and the PHP version has to be a static compiled elf with NO external libs (not even the syslibs) [17:06] and we cannot upgrade the system at all [17:07] We are forced to use a CGI based handler on a static php build to run the current wiki, due to outside forces, this cannot be changed [17:07] Just curious, why is that the case? Are we running AT on IA infrastructure or something? [17:07] Last time I had to compile php, it was over a month to get PHP to compile to run on the shit old box [17:08] The wiki is on "bulletproof" hosting that @SketchCow pays for, it comes with lots of strings, but is just about impossible to take down [17:08] The system version of PHP on the box is 4.4.9 if that tells you how this works out [17:08] O_O [17:09] its running redhat I think (its a cpanel server) from the stone ages [17:09] Does anything other than the wiki run on that box? [17:09] Its a shared webhost [17:09] its got about 200 other websites on it outside the ATWiki i think [17:10] 200 website that Jason controls/runs? Or 200 websites of other customers? [17:10] Oh! and if the php process uses more then 16MB of ram, it kills it [17:10] Other Customers [17:11] This is like a gigantic can of worms. [17:11] lol [17:11] it was about a month of work to get it to a modern PHP version (Its like on 7.0) [17:12] the hardest part was getting shit like the system libs to static compile in [17:12] into one giant php-cgi that I'm forcing apache to run it under [17:13] So real talk, other than "Jason pays for it" what is the reason we're sticking with this hosting? [17:13] s/what is the/is there a/ [17:13] Its mostly not public knowledge, but people do try and threaten service providers we host stuff on [17:14] A good example of this is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSWqx8goqSY [17:14] Even with just the wiki stuff, I think jason still gets takedown notices all the time [17:14] he promptly ignores them [17:14] Yeah I've watched that talk a few times. Loonies writing handwritten lawsuits and such. [17:15] *** DogsRNice has joined #archiveteam-bs [17:15] Finding good "almost" bullet proof hosting is hard [17:15] Cheaply that is, I think its something like 50$ a quarter, forever [17:16] What about doing something like hosting on DO/AWS/Azure/Rackspace/Linode and putting CloudFlare free in front of it? [17:16] We are anti-CF around here [17:16] True [17:16] * jrwr isn't [17:16] but most are [17:17] I am in your boat @phuzion but after a few weeks of discussion last year, we are staying put for now [17:17] I mean... https://efnet.logs.kiska.pw/ is on vultr :D [17:17] It gets weekly full database and file backups to the IA [17:17] Pls don't consume all my bandwidth [17:18] * jrwr starts up pipeline.py [17:18] :D [17:18] *CONSUME* [17:18] * phuzion starts up rtorrent [17:18] I'd probably win the resource exhaustion contest compared to pipeline [17:18] 2048 threads should do the trick [17:18] lol [17:19] But overall, its a PITA and I don't like touching it much [17:19] Ill move it to the next LTS release once I figure out how to get php7.4 to static compile and work on the box [17:19] LOL so apparently someone has decided to invite kiskaLog to a channel :D [17:20] jrwr: Cool, if you need a hand with anything, feel free to ping me, I've definitely got experience with wikis. I just need a ballpark. [17:26] pcgamingwiki does XML dumps into the IA once a Q [17:26] Its not very much [17:27] it does have massive traffic spikes [17:27] My current config will handle a front page of reddit swarm... mostly [17:27] Oh wow, nice. [17:28] if it overloads, it will do a HTML shim to show a cached page of the wiki page they are looking at [17:28] its very clever [17:29] (from the wayback machine) [17:30] Neat [18:02] *** schbirid has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving) [18:19] I might need help with my blog, jrwr [18:19] Also, maybe we need to talk to the host about the wiki [18:19] What you need [18:19] Oh, it crashes when I try and log in, tells me things are messed [18:19] I'll quantify it better when I have time [18:19] Ah, Can I get screenshots or the URL [18:20] Yeah, I'll bother you elsewhere [18:20] I'm currently focused today on a "minor" game magazine project that has ballooned into 5 unrelated collections and thousands of hidden items coming to light [18:30] *** Ctrl has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 864 seconds) [18:53] *** Pixi` has joined #archiveteam-bs [18:57] *** Pixi has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 255 seconds) [19:04] *** klg has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [20:20] *** Pixi` has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving) [20:24] *** Ctrl has joined #archiveteam-bs [20:29] *** Pixi has joined #archiveteam-bs [21:35] *** kiska has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection) [21:36] *** kiska has joined #archiveteam-bs [21:59] *** godane has quit IRC (Read error: Operation timed out) [22:56] *** godane has joined #archiveteam-bs [22:57] *** Datechnom has joined #archiveteam-bs
