whats up hook54321 ? |
04:20
🔗
|
hook54321 |
So I have some logs from a discord server and I was asked to not share them, so I provided a hash of the file and later on a hash of each line. The message logs contain people's usernames. Since them at least one trans person has come out, and their old username (that's in the logs I have) is based on their previous name. I can't modify it without the hash changing of course, and even if I could I feel like modifying it would be tampering. |

*Since then |
04:22
🔗
|
Flashfire |
remember that that was them then and this is them now |
04:22
🔗
|
Flashfire |
they have made that change and thats how they feel now but that was still once their identity even if they didn't agree with it |
04:22
🔗
|
Flashfire |
Make it so that in future logs that the username reflects their transition |

I know, but like, there are people that could use the knowledge of their previous username for negative things. Although it's not really a secret what their old username was. |
04:24
🔗
|
hook54321 |
I no longer log stuff from the server because Discord has since then stopped being okay with some selfbot usage. |
04:25
🔗
|
hook54321 |
I approached them and talked with them about it and explained why I couldn't change it even if I wanted to, but like, it still makes me feel iffy. |
04:25
🔗
|
hook54321 |
I guess I might be worrying about this too much |
04:26
🔗
|
Flashfire |
I can understand why and some people are assholes but you can only do so much |
04:26
🔗
|
hook54321 |
yeah |
04:26
🔗
|
hook54321 |
true |
04:26
🔗
|
Flashfire |
Its a part of their identity even if they weren't happy with it at that time |
04:26
🔗
|
hook54321 |
If someone wants to find for negative purposes I think they'll find a way to do it no matter what. |
04:27
🔗
|
fenn |
do you have a good reason to share the logs now? you could just not release the logs |
04:30
🔗
|
hook54321 |
I've been asked to not share the whole log file. I'm allowed to share portions because mods have come to me in the past asking me to look up stuff for them. Although seeing how unstable this server's mod team is it wouldn't surprise me if the server gets deleted at some point. The logs contain stuff that could be of interest to server members, and all of the content in there was accessible to them at some point anyways, so it's not like I'm |
04:30
🔗
|
hook54321 |
leaking anything. |
04:31
🔗
|
Flashfire |
hook54321 give a copy to each server member with slight changes in the metadata for each member you give it to. That way if something is leaked or used maliciously you know which server member leaked it |
04:31
🔗
|
Flashfire |
I may be misunderstanding metadata but in my mind it works |
04:31
🔗
|
Flashfire |
or some other kind of unique identifier for each person you share it with |
04:34
🔗
|
hook54321 |
In order to do what you're describing I would have to change the logs themselves. Iirc companies do this sometimes with emails. |
04:35
🔗
|
hook54321 |
There are 5000 people in the server and at least 200 active people, so it wouldn't really work. |
04:35
🔗
|
Flashfire |
Ah ok |
04:35
🔗
|
hook54321 |
I'm not really worried about people leaking it, because there's no point to leak stuff if it's been released to people. |
