00:17 🔗 Ryz Sad times that "!in" for DuckDuckGo won't be of any good use after the shut down~ :c

00:27 🔗 Raccoon the shutdown?
00:32 🔗 systwi_ is now known as systwi
00:35 🔗 VADemon apparently the shortcut for invidious. Someone will probably fix that one
00:36 🔗 VADemon besides, you can tweak your URL bar to do exactly this in Firefox. Its been possible for the past ~7 years
00:38 🔗 JAA Try 17 years. Keyword shortcuts on bookmarks have existed since very early on Firefox.
00:40 🔗 JAA Actually, it already existed on Phoenix 0.1 it seems. So yeah, it has literally always been possible on Firefox. :-)
00:55 🔗 benjinsmi It's a shame, cause it was really easy to link people to invidious if they wanted to see Youtube annotations on some video. It still works on other instances, but some of those might go down as well
00:56 🔗 benjinsmi The actual annotation data is pulled from the IA, but in terms of saying to people "click this link to see annotations as they were" it was great
01:23 🔗 Raccoon SketchCow: How many domains have you bought and said "That's a good idea for a website. It might even make some money." and never did anything with them?
01:47 🔗 VADemon JAA: what he means is a quick search: e.g. "!in lolcatz" in URL bar would redirect you to a search on invidious. I'm sure that's ~Firefox 4 or later
02:19 🔗 VADemon has quit IRC (left4dead)
02:30 🔗 HP_Archiv has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving)

02:43 🔗 systwi ivan: I'm not much of a programmer aside from bash scripts and a little hint of Python, but I was thinking Batou could be modified to only accept bandcamp urls
02:43 🔗 systwi Of course, in a different server
02:43 🔗 systwi *channel
02:46 🔗 ivan I can't really volunteer any of my time to maintain that stack of software because my time is already overaccounted for
02:47 🔗 ivan I can provide storage and design advice
02:47 🔗 ivan YTA is a lot more than an IRC bot :-)
02:49 🔗 systwi That's completely understandable, I was just putting the idea out there. If the YTA source code is available (probably on your github, if I were to imagine), I can take a look at it and see if I can piece together something.
02:50 🔗 systwi I'm starting college back up again in the not-so-distant future, so now's the time to give my average coding skills another shot
02:51 🔗 ivan there's an IRC bot that requires years of Rust knowledge to touch, a pile of fucked up shell scripts that launch youtube-dl, a youtube-dl with dozens of patches for YouTube
02:52 🔗 ivan a dashboard written in zsh for use in cgi-bin
02:52 🔗 ivan nothing pleasant
02:54 🔗 systwi And I'm not even sure what Rust is <_>;
02:54 🔗 ivan if you really want to archive bandcamp just start with youtube-dl or whatever on some hard drives and see if you output is archival-quality and has all the metadata you want
02:55 🔗 systwi I still don't mind at least taking a look, but if someone else has the knowledge and free time, I (and others I'm sure) would be pretty grateful.
02:55 🔗 ivan you could also hoard things into your own gsuite since mine is pretty large
02:55 🔗 systwi That's a good idea, for now I can give that a shot.
02:56 🔗 systwi I don't have a gsuite plan, and will likely never get one, but it's a good thought. I'm one who aims at self-hosting as much as possible.
02:56 🔗 systwi But for backups, I could see that.

14:30 🔗 JAA VADemon: Nope, you could always set up bookmarks with a URL like https://example.org/search?q=%s and a keyword of 'ex' such that entering 'ex asdf' in the URL bar would lead to https://example.org/search?q=asdf . It's not well-documented, but there are issues on Bugzilla from 2001 (i.e. way before the 0.1 release in Nov 2002) that already report it as normal behaviour, e.g.
14:30 🔗 JAA https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79319 . Not entirely sure whether exclamation marks were/are allowed in keywords, but that's really the only potentially missing part.
14:32 🔗 JAA As I recently learned thanks to ivan, there's also %S dating back to the same time. %s percent-encodes the search term, %S doesn't.
14:32 🔗 JAA So yeah, pretty much anything you'd want has always been possible on Firefox. :-)
