Previously, the installer would state that my system is not supported. [20:03] I am considering installing a Linux distribution on my laptop. [20:04] For driver update and compatibility reasons, I will keep the Windows 10 operating system. This means I will dual-boot with Windows and Arch Linux. [20:05] I'm not sure how well Linux handles SSDs in terms of wear from use. I know that the Windows drivers have all been optimized. I'm also concerned with battery life on Linux. [20:07] My system does not have dedicated graphics, so I will not have to worry about switching graphics on Linux. [20:08] I feel like there is a lot for Linux to catch up with, in terms of laptop compatibility and ease-of-use. [20:08] I am also concerned about window scaling issues with high DPI screens on Linux. [20:08] I've been using Debian on laptops for years without any problems apart from unrelated bugs. [20:10] I've already encountered annoying things related to high DPI scaling on Windows 10 with some applications. I wonder how Linux distributions are handling high DPI scaling. [20:10] I previously used a laptop with a UHD display. The display was wonderful, but the software needed much catching-up. [20:12] JAA: What is your laptop make and model? [20:13] Or laptop specifications. [20:13] t3: ThinkPad T450s currently. [20:13] No experience with high DPI displays here, but I know that xfce has options for that. [20:32] JAA: Thanks. Do you use an SSD? Do you mainly use your laptop battery or have the laptop plugged into a power source? [20:34] Yes, SSD. I don't think it's even possible to use an HDD in the T450s since it only has an M2 slot I think. [20:34] Mixed battery and plugged in. [20:37] Okay. Thanks. [21:07] Broadwell was already around for a bit then though, so I guess those issues were sorted out before.
