Apple iPhone owes it's existence to cddb, the specification that allowed music CD's and track names to be automatically identified. Without cddb, there'd be no automated music ripping. Without ripping, no sharing, no personal collections -- it was just too darn time consuming to expect consumers to type in every single track name of every CD they owned. Without collections, no iPods. |
