Can someone help us of wikiteam upload the Wikimedia dumps on archive.org? They already have some mirrors now but an occasional snapshot doesn't harm. ftp://ftpmirror.your.org/pub/wikimedia/dumps/ |

|
Nemo_bis |
If you register on http://wikitech.wikimedia.org/ you can read them directly from NFS and upload to archive.org with some 10-20 MB/s upstream quite often |

Hello. Where can I get help diagnosing a failed CheckIP? |
19:10
🔗
|
antomatic |
This could be the right place. Where are you seeing it, g_lined? |
19:11
🔗
|
g_lined |
When I look at my 'Current Project' on my virtual machine. Every attempt to get started on the project fails immediately on the CheckIP. |
19:12
🔗
|
g_lined |
Got IP Address shows an amazon ip address (54.183.8.161). |
19:12
🔗
|
antomatic |
OK, do you know which project you're running? (it might be that the project has ended or run out of time) |
19:12
🔗
|
g_lined |
I've tried a number of projects. Currently I'm trying Dogcaster |
19:12
🔗
|
g_lined |
but I've also tried Bebo |
19:12
🔗
|
antomatic |
That's OK, it's not just you |
19:13
🔗
|
antomatic |
Both of those projects have ended now - actually I don't think there are any live projects in the warrior at the moment anyway |
19:13
🔗
|
g_lined |
I see |
19:13
🔗
|
antomatic |
The 'CheckIP' failure is because those sites eventually closed or moved, so the warrior doesn't try to download from a site if it knows it's not the one it wants |
19:14
🔗
|
antomatic |
Hopefully there will be some new warrior projects before too long, though. :) |
19:14
🔗
|
g_lined |
oh I couldn't work out if were my address it was checking. Because it talks about proxies and firewalls |
19:14
🔗
|
antomatic |
Mm, those certainly can cause a problem too - but not in this case |
19:15
🔗
|
antomatic |
(The check is useful because sometimes someone joins in with archiving, only to find out later that they've uploaded about a million copies of a web page saying "XYZ University does not allow you to visit this site" or something like that.) |
19:15
🔗
|
antomatic |
It's a double-check to make sure what's being downloaded is really coming from the right place. |
19:15
🔗
|
g_lined |
Ok. Thanks for your help. How will I know if there's a new project in the warrior? |
19:15
🔗
|
g_lined |
(lol, understood) |
19:16
🔗
|
antomatic |
When that happens the list of projects should update, and if your warrior is set to 'archiveteam's choice' then the chances are that it'll start working on the new project straight away |
19:16
🔗
|
g_lined |
Indeed, but If I don't want to leave my virtual PC running all the time, can I find out without running it up? |
19:17
🔗
|
antomatic |
Perhaps have a look at www.archiveteam.org every so often - any big current projects will be noted on the front page |
19:18
