00:04 🔗 godane i'm just uploading the ones with bad formated metadata
00:05 🔗 SketchCow Thanks
00:07 🔗 godane i figure a slow grab of stuff over time is better for IA
00:07 🔗 godane then 'here is 5PB of data' all at once
00:08 🔗 godane not that funnyordie is anyway close to 5PB but it gets the point i'm making
00:08 🔗 godane also there are videos that are gone in funny or die
00:16 🔗 SketchCow Can someone grab this
00:16 🔗 SketchCow https://vimeo.com/user4872791/review/105705326/ab460115dd
00:16 🔗 SketchCow This is the not-yet-released international version of the documentary
00:18 🔗 godane ERROR: Cannot download embed-only video without embedding URL. Please call youtube-dl with the URL of the page that embeds this video.

00:23 🔗 godane the vpro doesn't release the english version at the same time as the dutch version
00:23 🔗 godane *its weird that
00:25 🔗 joepie91 SketchCow: those are some remarkably good English subtitles
00:32 🔗 SketchCow They are
00:32 🔗 SketchCow It's not weird
00:32 🔗 SketchCow International has different clearances
00:32 🔗 SketchCow Also the director is fighting to get it released CC
00:32 🔗 SketchCow So archive.org can put it up
00:35 🔗 godane cool

03:49 🔗 cf pluesch: Just hopped on to the website and saw wallbase is down completely now. It seems the image server is still up though, so I'm downloading the first 1000 images you're missing.
04:51 🔗 arkhive is there an update on trying to negotiate with Twitpic for a mutually favorable solution? or should i ask that on #quitpic

05:32 🔗 Arkiver2 ---------------------------------------------
05:32 🔗 Arkiver2 ---------------------------------------------
20:16 🔗 arkhive Oh, and did anyone ever try contacting the 'Oh Internet' people to see if they still have the data from their original site, the original encyclopedia dramatica. ?
20:26 🔗 joepie91 arkhive: girlvinyl was unwilling to give up the data of the original ED
20:27 🔗 joepie91 when .ch was launched
20:27 🔗 joepie91 I doubt anything has changed in the meantime
20:28 🔗 joepie91 (note that this was discussed in the capacity of "ED.ch admin", not that of "archiveteam member")
20:28 🔗 joepie91 (different hat, but I suspect that the result would have been the same)
20:29 🔗 arkhive oh.
20:32 🔗 arkhive I have a question to AT and i would like multiple thoughts/opinions. Every year(already happened this year) my city does an electronic recycling event and tons of shit is dropped off. I volunteered there years ago when still in highschool(actually fun gig) and am wondering if it is stupid or not worth it to ask the people in charge if i can take the old floppies/media/other worthwhile
20:32 🔗 arkhive stuff? So much is recycled(hopefully not dumped in the ocean) and lots of good stuff i've seen bite the dust or whatever
20:33 🔗 arkhive but is that inappropriate for me to ask if i could take some stuff? or waste of time?
20:34 🔗 RedType it would be apprpriate but unfortunately they will probably say no, due to privacy reasons
20:34 🔗 joepie91 arkhive: it's fine to ask, but expect to be brushed off for data security reasons
20:34 🔗 joepie91 that said, depends on policy
20:34 🔗 joepie91 if it's normally taken by a data destruction company, then you probably won't have a chance
20:34 🔗 joepie91 if it's just put out with the trash, then you might have a chance
20:35 🔗 aaaaaaaaa you could suggest they go directly to the IA
20:35 🔗 aaaaaaaaa that way they have a better idea about what will happen with it
20:38 🔗 joepie91 yeah, or that
20:39 🔗 aaaaaaaaa Just ask the AT for the latest 990 and take it with you.
20:42 🔗 arkhive what is that?
20:42 🔗 arkhive 990
20:42 🔗 aaaaaaaaa The ironic thing is that they have a huge collection of 990s but I cannot find their own on the website; I have to go somewhere else.
20:42 🔗 aaaaaaaaa I'll link an example. It is a lot easier to explain if you look at one.
20:44 🔗 aaaaaaaaa https://ia601205.us.archive.org/32/items/NationalRifleAssociation2010IrsForm990/2010_NRA_IRS990.pdf
20:45 🔗 aaaaaaaaa basically, it is the one stop shop for charities, foundations and operating foundations in the US.
20:45 🔗 aaaaaaaaa It gives their purpose, basic info that they've been vetted by the IRS and their underlying financial information.
20:46 🔗 aaaaaaaaa some pages are way more informative than others, but different groups look for different things so the whole thing helps
20:49 🔗 aaaaaaaaa the only tricky thing is that the IA is a POF not a charity, yet. Some places are more skeptical of POFs, even if they are transitioning.
20:50 🔗 arkhive i don't know what pof is
20:51 🔗 aaaaaaaaa its a private operating foundation. One of the three types of a 501(c) entities.
20:51 🔗 aaaaaaaaa well, major types
20:51 🔗 aaaaaaaaa But that requires a huge explanation that I don't really want to get into right now.
20:52 🔗 arkhive oh
20:52 🔗 aaaaaaaaa I hate to be curt, but if you are curious, Google it.
20:52 🔗 arkhive :P
20:52 🔗 aaaaaaaaa but, long story short, it makes a difference to big groups sometimes for highly technical reasons.
20:53 🔗 arkhive ya i did a short google first and the wiki had a bunch of different meanings but none like that
20:54 🔗 arkhive but okay
20:54 🔗 arkhive i'll do some reading up
20:54 🔗 arkhive my dad is the CFO of his company and could probably explain it
20:58 🔗 aaaaaaaaa long story short, if you are doing work on behalf of a charity, supporting documents like the 990, incorporating or organizing articles and the IRS letter are always helpful.
20:58 🔗 aaaaaaaaa but he should know what all of those are, as he probably bumps into the IRS fairly often.
20:58 🔗 arkhive okay. thanks dude
20:58 🔗 arkhive i am way new to the whole charity such stuff
21:00 🔗 aaaaaaaaa doesn't help that the IRS can make even the simplest of things into 10 hours of paperwork.
21:01 🔗 aaaaaaaaa the way many EU countries do it is better
21:01 🔗 aaaaaaaaa but that is another huge topic
21:01 🔗 arkhive ya i don't know too much about his job just that he travels a lot to PA, Boston, TN, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, so on...
21:01 🔗 arkhive and china lol
21:02 🔗 arkhive it is a company that manufactures construction stuff for big architech firms or something and they outsource all the shit to china and such lol
21:03 🔗 arkhive they were doing a bunch of business in Saudi Arabia recently but that is pretty much all i know
21:05 🔗 ersi You know, there is a channel for off-topic discussions and general pleasant conversation called #archiveteam-bs
21:05 🔗 * ersi lights the off-topic siren
21:05 🔗 arkhive oh. sorry.
21:05 🔗 arkhive @ersi: i am done with convo and will not make that mistake again. I appologize.
21:06 🔗 aaaaaaaaa oops, I thought we were on bs
21:06 🔗 ersi It was just a friendly reminder :)
21:06 🔗 arkhive :)
21:24 🔗 joepie91 ersi: ... you are aware that sirens aren't very fire-resistant, yes?
