Cramp. Ow. [09:06] * antomatic sits down. [09:09] lol [09:14] Hey guys I was looking at the hyves.nl archive (http://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=Hyves) but there isnt a main index for it right? [09:16] There's also https://archive.org/details/hyves if that helps any. [09:19] archive.org doesnt allow me to search in the hyves.nl collection directly [09:20] I guess I have to download all of the cdx files and search it that way [09:21] klaasje: what url are you searching for? [09:26] A lot of my friends didnt save their pictures from that site when it closed [09:50] SketchCow: do you know if we will ever have urls like these, from the old grabs we did, rewritten correctly in the wayback machine? http://web.archive.org/web/20131121095208/http://jaimy-x.hyves.nl/ [10:00] Are there any plans to fix those grabs? ^ [15:42] Always possible. [15:43] If you gather them up and mail jscott@archive.org, I can submit it to the engineers. [15:44] SketchCow: I'll start selecting all the bad warc's in the next days and will mail the list of bad items I found to you. [16:13] Sorry to bother you. I have never uploaded anything to archive.org before. Do I just 7z it and upload that resulting file? This is for sites that have robots.txt so wayback machine can't consume them. Thanks for your help [16:15] So. [16:15] We have that functionality (a machine called archivebot) that allows Archive Team to go in and do it in a way that's consistent and goes into the wayback machine. [16:16] But you made an effort for a reason, so I would say, please upload it in. If it's not in .warc format, it won't be in the wayback, but your copy will definitely be appreciated as an addition. [16:18] Unfortunately my archives are of sites that no longer exist so they can't be saved properly now, sadly I didn't know enough about archiving at the time to use warc so it is just the html and files. [16:18] Precisely, you did the best you could, and it's better that the data was saved in any fashion than not saved at all. [16:18] It works best if you name the item DATE_WEBSITE_save [16:19] 2010_www.bogstandard.com_save [16:19] Then someone glancing can see what you've done. [16:19] If it's multiple sites, make multiple items. [16:20] Okay, thanks for all your help. And then it stays there forever or does it get deleted after some time (inactivity)? [16:21] Forever. [16:21] Awesome, thank you [16:24] Hello again, sorry. I had another question I meant to ask. I didn't have permission from the sites to archive it, and I guess it is copyright? (it's forums) Is that okay to upload? [16:29] irc_handl: yeah go ahead [16:43] Tell them we said it was OK. [17:16] copyright situation for forums is weird and has never been explored in court [17:16] so. [17:18] go for it. [19:41] SketchCow: I see you're not in the channel yet, but this is our latest project: #fizzilla [19:42] Saving all of quizilla.teennick.com, a lot of storied, polls, quizzes, etc. [19:53] poems, lyrics, journals, you name it - all being wiped out. [19:54] plus vampire fiction. lots of vampire fiction. :) [20:04] oh my god won't somebody save the vampire fiction [20:05] lol [20:06] Yeah, but it's a dick move to take kids and teenagers' self-written content, [20:06] monetise it to fuck [20:06] ( http://www.mtvnetworksdigital.co.uk/brands/view/quizilla ) [20:06] ^ [20:06] then just turn around one day and say "sorry, wiping it all, fuck off" [20:06] i think their usercount was dropping [20:07] as the userbase was moving away [20:07] (according to wikipedia anyway) [20:07] ... [20:07] >tfw ie8 ad [20:11] wattpad seems to be popular with young writers right now [20:12] 35m users, 70m items... [20:12] that's going to be a nightmare to archive, one day [20:16] luckily just incrementing IDs [20:54] I'm going through the archiveteam collection to check which projects of us are not being rewritten in the wayback machine. Is there some page on the wiki I can post something about the state of the collection? [20:54] Or should I create a new page about that myself [21:03] New page [21:04] OK [21:05] Will create a new one [21:26] Adding 1,190 logos to any unlogo-d collections I've added to IA over the last 3 years. [21:27] In case you wonder what big thing I have on my plate. [21:27] important, that [21:27] the new interface REALLY makes logos obvious [21:43] antomatic, thats why i'm saving all of ffnet's stories [21:53] bsmith093: great news
