13:49 🔗 f_ superkuh: wait you never use TLS?
15:20 🔗 superkuh f_, depends what you mean. The cyphers on this old machine don't overlap with modern TLS options so for IRC from it I am a bit limited.
15:20 🔗 superkuh But I have plenty of newer machines in the shared mouse/keyboard span for things that do require CA TLS.
15:21 🔗 f_ superkuh: have you tried upgrading it?
15:21 🔗 f_ or you can't afford disconnecting for 10 minutes? :^)
15:21 🔗 superkuh It would not be an upgrade to move to newer distros.
15:21 🔗 f_ Depends which ;)
15:22 🔗 superkuh I depend on/really like a specific set of text to speech and screen reader tools only available feasibly on older distros.
15:22 🔗 superkuh I use this main machine's accessibility features to control the other machines int he span.
15:22 🔗 f_ are you legally blind?
15:22 🔗 superkuh No, but I am going blind progressively as my retina tear.
15:23 🔗 superkuh Just had surgery on both eyes about a month ago.
15:23 🔗 f_ :/
15:24 🔗 f_ what kind of surgery (if I may ask)?
15:24 🔗 satoshi rare disease?
15:24 🔗 f_ I guess
15:25 🔗 f_ but I'm really sorry to hear that, superkuh
15:25 🔗 satoshi yeah that sucks
15:25 🔗 superkuh Common disease. I had tears in my retina, flaps kind of hanging off ready to detach. They used a high powered green laser to "photocouagulate" and glue the flaps back on.
15:25 🔗 superkuh I guess less common at my age.
15:26 🔗 superkuh But common in old people.
15:26 🔗 superkuh It was a very unpleasant procedure.
15:30 🔗 f_ thus why you use a screen reader
15:31 🔗 superkuh To get train myself for when I lose vision more completely.
15:31 🔗 superkuh -get
15:32 🔗 f_ and what screen reader tools do you use?
15:32 🔗 superkuh orca and festival 1.96.
15:32 🔗 superkuh Festival with cmu arctic voices incompatible with festival 2 that all modern distros moved to.
15:33 🔗 superkuh And modern distros are also dropping X11 support and so all acccesibility.
15:33 🔗 superkuh Including the toolkits like gtk.
15:34 🔗 superkuh The only wayland implementation that has any accessibility support is GNOME's and instead of continuing the last 30 years of accessibility standards they invented 2 new GNOME in-house ones.
15:34 🔗 superkuh No other wayland compositor but theirs has screen reader support.
15:34 🔗 superkuh And theirs does not work with 99.999% of software, only GNOME special stuff.
15:35 🔗 f_ which distro do you use?
15:35 🔗 superkuh A highly modified version of Ubuntu 10.04 running my own 3.x kernel and X.org stack.
15:35 🔗 superkuh Er, Xorg.
15:36 🔗 f_ Woah, that's old
15:36 🔗 f_ so this must have been going for a long while
15:36 🔗 superkuh Got the 10.04 repos mirrored and served on my LAN too in case canonical every drops it.
15:37 🔗 superkuh And back-up hardware for all pieces for when the mobo eventually dies, etc.
15:37 🔗 superkuh Hopefully I can keep this 10.04 setup going till I die.
18:49 🔗 JAA Is that macula degeneration?
18:51 🔗 Xibalba has quit IRC (Quit: ZNC - https://znc.in)
18:51 🔗 Xibalba has joined #archiveteam
18:51 🔗 superkuh Something related to the squish of my eyeball causing stress due to the -11.5, -12 diopter prescription I have. My lenses are nearly 1.5cm thick on the edge.
21:30 🔗 JAA Ah, oof :-(
