[15:20] f_, depends what you mean. The cyphers on this old machine don't overlap with modern TLS options so for IRC from it I am a bit limited. [15:20] But I have plenty of newer machines in the shared mouse/keyboard span for things that do require CA TLS. [15:21] superkuh: have you tried upgrading it? [15:21] or you can't afford disconnecting for 10 minutes? :^) [15:21] It would not be an upgrade to move to newer distros. [15:21] Depends which ;) [15:22] I depend on/really like a specific set of text to speech and screen reader tools only available feasibly on older distros. [15:22] I use this main machine's accessibility features to control the other machines int he span. [15:22] are you legally blind? [15:22] No, but I am going blind progressively as my retina tear. [15:23] Just had surgery on both eyes about a month ago. [15:23] :/ [15:24] what kind of surgery (if I may ask)? [15:24] rare disease? [15:24] I guess [15:25] but I'm really sorry to hear that, superkuh [15:25] yeah that sucks [15:25] Common disease. I had tears in my retina, flaps kind of hanging off ready to detach. They used a high powered green laser to "photocouagulate" and glue the flaps back on. [15:25] I guess less common at my age. [15:26] But common in old people. [15:26] It was a very unpleasant procedure. [15:30] thus why you use a screen reader [15:31] To get train myself for when I lose vision more completely. [15:31] -get [15:32] and what screen reader tools do you use? [15:32] orca and festival 1.96. [15:32] Festival with cmu arctic voices incompatible with festival 2 that all modern distros moved to. [15:33] And modern distros are also dropping X11 support and so all acccesibility. [15:33] Including the toolkits like gtk. [15:34] The only wayland implementation that has any accessibility support is GNOME's and instead of continuing the last 30 years of accessibility standards they invented 2 new GNOME in-house ones. [15:34] No other wayland compositor but theirs has screen reader support. [15:34] And theirs does not work with 99.999% of software, only GNOME special stuff. [15:35] which distro do you use? [15:35] A highly modified version of Ubuntu 10.04 running my own 3.x kernel and X.org stack. [15:35] Er, Xorg. [15:36] Woah, that's old [15:36] so this must have been going for a long while [15:36] Got the 10.04 repos mirrored and served on my LAN too in case canonical every drops it. [15:37] And back-up hardware for all pieces for when the mobo eventually dies, etc. [15:37] Hopefully I can keep this 10.04 setup going till I die. [18:49] Is that macula degeneration? My lenses are nearly 1.5cm thick on the edge. [21:30] Ah, oof :-(
