thanks for making some updates, though! |

i got a wild hair and checked the official shorteners for bitly, nothing big :) |
02:46
🔗
|
JesseW |
eh, it's still useful |
02:47
🔗
|
JesseW |
btw -- regarding the IA census; would you be interested in setting up a cronjob to generate a list of identifiers and upload the list to IA on a monthly basis? It'd be nice to do, but I don't feel like doing it myself. |
02:49
🔗
|
bwn |
sure |
02:50
🔗
|
JesseW |
cool! To generate the list, you can just use the ia tool, like so: `ia search all:1` |
02:51
🔗
|
JesseW |
feel free to either upload all the files to one item, or one item per file, whichever you think best |
02:53
🔗
|
bwn |
hmm, by date in one item seems alright, not sure if there'd be any particular reason to split them up |
02:54
🔗
|
JesseW |
the only reason I can think of is to make the whole item immutable, rather than merely the individual files -- but that's probably not actually that much of a bonus |
02:55
🔗
|
JesseW |
I mean, for the urlteam stuff, it makes sense to split them up, as the size is big enough that putting them all together would get to be a hassle |
02:55
🔗
|
JesseW |
but this is only going to be a couple gigs a year, I think |
02:56
🔗
|
JesseW |
the lists seem to be about 500M each, so 6 GB a year |
02:57
🔗
|
JesseW |
oh, you probably want to strip off the pointless JSON before storing it, which you can do like this: cut -d \" -f 4 |
02:59
🔗
|
bwn |
yeah, i just was looking for the id lists i had |
03:00
🔗
|
bwn |
found 2015 ~400M |
03:00
🔗
|
JesseW |
nods |
03:01
🔗
|
bwn |
i should get a good chunk of time this weekend to tinker with it |
03:02
🔗
|
JesseW |
great! no hurry -- I was just reminded of it, and thought you might be more inclined towards actually doing it than I am. :-) |
03:03
🔗
|
JesseW |
oh, another advantage to multiple, immuntable whole items is that torrents won't break |
03:03
🔗
|
bwn |
mm, good point |
03:03
🔗
|
JesseW |
so it might be worth making one item per year |
03:04
🔗
|
JesseW |
that way, after the year is up, the item is immuntable, but we don't end up with an irritaatingly large number of tiny torrents |
03:04
🔗
|
JesseW |
(well 400M isn't tiny, but...) |
03:05
🔗
|
bwn |
i think that settles it :) |
03:05
🔗
|
JesseW |
:-) |
03:06
🔗
|
bwn |
and 400M used to need to go on it's own CD! ;) |
03:07
🔗
|
JesseW |
grin |
03:07
🔗
|
JesseW |
that is amusing. Just a *list* of the, effectively "book titles" on IA about *FILLS* a CD. |
03:10
🔗
|
bwn |
hmm, how many cards and drawers in a library card index would that be |

JesseW JW_work: proposing buff.ly once again. Already researched it, and it is huuuge. Judging from google and Bing finds, 3 times as big as flip.it. But uses 6 and 7 char, so will take a lot of time |
