Trying to use Wikiteam, followed instructions on Github carefully, read tutorial carefully, comes up with error, anyone know how to get it working on windows 7?: http://i.thinimg.com/img/822p.png (might vanish soon because I visited the API url and host is protective) (also tried the "wikiteam for windows" fork someone made and similar but different error: ht |

So yeah, as ivan already mentioned, you need to use Python 2 for this. |
04:25

OH thanks I was just asking again back there, do you know what version is safe? or any python 2 |

Any should do. I'd go with the latest 2.7.x. |

I did a full uninstall of python and installed 2.7 and it looks like it's trying to run the new one still |
04:34

|
wikiteam- |
Looks like Python 2.7 doesn't even have a pip.exe |
04:34
🔗
|
JAA |
Yeah, I think pip wasn't included in old Python versions. |
04:34
🔗
|
JAA |
But I can't help you from here since I haven't used Windows in a decade. |
04:34
🔗
|
wikiteam- |
https://github.com/wikiteam/wikiteam says at the start to do "pip install --upgrade -r requirements.txt" which runs on the latest python but the rest of the program doesn't work in the latest python |

That command will work fine on a *nix-based machine. |

Our tools are generally not geared towards Windows at all. |

I think someone here was running the wikiteam ones on Windows, but I also remember there being some issues with NTFS. |
04:39

yeah I can understand that for a lot of stuff linux is better, but if the goal is seriously to try archive every wiki, making it usable by more people would definitely be useful :( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems#Desktop_and_laptop_computers |

If someone wants to do it and it doesn't make the code unreadable due to dozens of "if windows:" statements, sure. |

Most Windows users would be scared to even open a terminal though. |

You could also mention the wiki here and let someone else grab it. |

I was just thinking of typing something like that hah... I am worried if the host gets wind of it they might try lock it down |

|
wikiteam- |
hmm you said this should work fine on linux, but 2.7 doesn't have pip regardless of version right? not sure if I understand right... pip install --upgrade -r requirements.txt |
04:51
🔗
|
JAA |
Yeah right, you need to install pip somehow. Most Linux installations I've seen came with both Python 2.7 and pip pre-installed though, unless you explicitly do a minimal install and exclude it. |
04:51
🔗
|
JAA |
I'm sure you can install pip on Windows as well, but don't ask me how. |
04:51

Should be easy enough to find on the internet though. |
04:52

can you link me something with 2.7 and pip on it? I could try run it in Oracle VirtualBox |
04:52
🔗
|
JAA |
But I believe there were issues with filename collisions on NTFS due to the case insensitivity, so it's probably not a good idea to run it on there anyway. |

The third number is different from the first 2 numbers :( And it's almost 50,000 pages, what do I do? downloading it again seems like the same thing would just happen again (I had to resume twice when it had read timeouts) |

2 missing </page> in the XML (corrupt download), I have a almost 50,000 page dump and it's came out with the 2nd and 3rd numbers mismatching on integrity check, downloading the whole thing again for hours and letting it fail again seems impractical? :( Is there anything I can do JAA or anyone aargh |

The cause of the corruption is probably that it got interrupted twice by having 2 request timeouts during the whole thing (which seem to be set for less than 10 seconds, seems bad when one moment of lag can damage a whole many hours long dump) |

used resume twice to carry on after that |
