wp494here's a funny story about ITT Tech and Office 365: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/22/bankrupt_school_itt_cloud_data_wiped/ [00:00]
Odd0002wait ITT Tech is bankrupt?
there were so many ads on TV for that place over the last few years...
at least I don't have to watch them anymore
[00:01]
wp494Odd0002: yeah they went bankrupt a little while ago
and many people collectively said good riddance
[00:05]
Odd0002ah
wow I just found a bunch of old CDs in my basement
is there a tutorial on how to best rip them to upload to archive?

Odd0002or, how do I add screenshots to other user's uploads? I can scan the front of the CD for https://archive.org/details/Star_Wars_-_Dark_Forces_1994_LucasArts__CDD6287 but I don't want to add another entry [00:17]

powerKittHiya [00:22]
Odd0002hi [00:23]
powerKittThe dashboard for my warrior has said that it's "beginning work on a project" for a while but it doesn't seem to actually be doing anything
I'm gonna restart it
[00:23]
wp494powerKitt: GLaDOS fixed an issue where people had that project stall on that last night [00:25]
Odd0002it seemed to do that for me as well for some specific projects [00:25]
wp494so def. do restart [00:25]
powerKittNow it's working. [00:25]
Odd0002not now, just a few weeks ago [00:25]
powerKittNow I'm getting lots of glorious 503 errors
Just like grandma Valve used to make
[00:25]
Odd0002everyone seems to be [00:27]
wp494^
that's just a fact of spuf's numbered days
[00:29]

Odd0002Is there anything special I should do if I find for example the iso of the program shown in this demo video (https://archive.org/details/012438), or do I just upload it as the same name with a different file type?
err find the disk and make an ISO of it I mean
[01:01]
powerKittYou'll probably want to choose a more descriptive identifier, Odd0002.
But yeah, just uploading it with name on the Disc would be fine.
[01:05]
***Sk1d has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 250 seconds) [01:06]
Odd0002A more descriptive identifier? What do you mean by that? (I just found the CD in a stack of CDs and that's all the info I know about it, but I found an article about it: http://pbclub.pwcsite.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hometime_Weekend_Home_Projects) [01:07]
powerKittIt's the bit after https://archive.org/details/ [01:11]
Odd0002oh, URL-wise, ok [01:12]
powerKittBut, yeah, go ahead and upload an ISO and CD scan. Worst thing that'll happen is no one noticing the item for a while. [01:13]

MrRadarThese kind of games are why I'm probably going to switch to Backblaze B2 if Crashplan kills their personal plans
Even though it will be more expensive (though, for the volume of data I'd like to keep online, not too much more)
[16:19]
JAATo be fair, only the "$10 for lifetime unlimited storage" accounts were killed, and it doesn't surprise me at all.
The GSuite for Business accounts for $10 per month are still fine and unlimited.
[16:25]
MrRadarIf it was just Google I'd agree, but with Amazon killing access to acd_cli and rclone and Crashplan's rumored removal of their personal plans I don't trust anyone advertising "unlimited" storage
With B2 you're charged by the GB so someone must have determined that the rate they're offering is sustainable
[16:27]
JAAYeah, "unlimited" only works out if the average user doesn't use much storage. [16:28]
MrRadarWith B2 I can also use rclone which means I'm not tied down by any proprietary client (I *hate* the current Crashplan client and it doesn't seem like anyone else supports Linux very well)
(Okay maybe "hate" is too strong a word, but its operation is just too opaque for my tastes)
[16:28]
JAAI don't even consider using any services which don't let me use my own software.
By the way, Online.net C14 is another cheap per-GB storage option.
[16:29]
MrRadarThanks, I didn't know Online.net offered a storage service
And they're even cheaper than B2, with no download fees!
Hmm... though they charge for transferring data to and from the long-term storage, which is effectively a upload/download fee...
[16:31]
JAAYeah. :-/ [16:39]
There's also Cloud Archive by OVH, same pricing as C14 (2€/TB-month + 10€/TB in or out).
On C14, there's a separate service which lets you avoid the in/out fees but is more expensive (5€/TB-month).

MrRadarWow, I looked into C14 some more and their "operation" fee is even more BS than I realized. When you retrieve your data you need to store it back with both operations incurrent separate charges
And on top of that if you want to delete data they charge for *that* too!
WTF
